Re: xsane fails to open brother scanner (linux mint xfce 19.1)

Did you run the link commands per the recommendation?

Code: Select all

sudo ln -sfr /usr/lib64/libbr* /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
sudo ln -sfr /usr/lib64/sane/libsane-brother* /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/sane
Edit: Also, I added "scanner" to my user account in Users and Groups.

Re: xsane fails to open brother scanner (linux mint xfce 19.1)

Success USB! OK.....I followed the standard install for the MFC-440CN and got no joy. I installed using the same printer installer 2.2.1-1 and the rule-type1 deb from download as OP. I added "scanner" to my user account group and still no joy. Looking through the discussion at the bug report, I tri...

USB. Printer IS working OK. Problem is scanner. It is not recognise by LM 19.1 Tessa Mate.
When you say "not recognise", is that from Simple Scan or Xsane not detecting the scanner?

just did a test install of that driver the other day for discussion on another thread. Ran the install to Mint 19.1 Cinnamon x64 for an Xpress M2020W (printer only, not AIO).

Re: CD-DVD Player Not recognised

Hi yes the drive is working from am mechanical perspective. Just for some reason the application is not detecting the drive? many thanks. Given the motherboard BIOS date of 03/30/2007, that must be a pretty old system. I'm thinking it's a hardware failure. Could be a loose/bad cable to the drive (I...

Re: HP P1102W Laserjet Installation Issues

Hi, I like yourself have tried all the " helps" available. I am on Linux Mint 19.1.here is the diagnostic reply Checking for Deprecated items.... error: This distro (i.e linuxmint 19.1) is either deprecated or not yet supported. So anyone know how we will be informed once LM 19.1 is supported? Than...

Re: xsane fails to open brother scanner (linux mint xfce 19.1)

That address problem is odd. I like brian_p's suggestion. I have a Brother MFC-440CN all-in-one being dropped off this morning. It would not detect scanner under Mint 19 Cinnamon for a friend. I swapped in an HP all-in-one, so I could do some tests and held back for a while to make sure the HP was d...

My best suggestion is to try running the Xplora Park under WINE (Windows Emulator).

I see where someone just added your scanner to the bug report. Guessing you did.

Have you tried?

Code: Select all

scanimage --test

Re: Scanner detected but no permissions to access it

Which version of Mint are you running? If it's 19.1, you need to check release notes page for the "Scanner not detected" problem and link to the bug report. Not sure it applies, but worth checking.

Go to the section on "Scanner not detected" in the release notes for 19.1 xfce. Follow the bug report and see if any advice there helps.

Re: Duplicate printer - How to prevent autodetection?

Yes. Is the "other" duplicate installed DirectJet or LPD/LPR? I'm guessing yes. Could try turning off IPP at the Printer in it's setups. I'd look at it from web console using browser to the IP address of the printer. It might be an obvious setting. It might be in activation of HP Web Services. Coul...

Re: Xsane Error Epson ET-4500 "Failed to Start Scanner"

Could be problem in the Preference settings. Might try rebooting. I tried Simple Scan on my test system with Mint 19.1 Cinnamon, as well as XSane and Image Scan. I had the UFW enabled and had to disable to get it working. Looks like a SYN Cookie problem, and the DMESG log (last entries) showed SYN f...

Re: Xsane Error Epson ET-4500 "Failed to Start Scanner"

OK....I just did a lookup on the mac addresses from that arp.....and we have a winner! The mac 44:d2:44:04:45:95 is registered as Seiko Epson! :D So, you need to use IP address 10.0.0.44 in that customization. The three lines should be this. myscanner.udi = esci:networkscan://10.0.0.44:1865 myscanne...

Re: Xsane Error Epson ET-4500 "Failed to Start Scanner"

Good question. I'm guessing you have it installed DHCP. Your Epson console (on the printer) might tell the IP address. Mine does in the Tools - Network Status. Maybe it's in your ARP cache. From Mint, you could try running the following command from Terminal. arp -a It should echo something like EPS...

Re: Xsane Error Epson ET-4500 "Failed to Start Scanner"

I just did a test install on another system for my Epson.

If you edit that imagescan.conf appropriate to your printer name info and IP address (your address on your network), all three: Image Scan, Simple Scan, and Xsane should work. It took that simple edit to get all three for me.
