damn... it feels like a kitten died :( well.. at least buy a tower and put together the other motherboard/cpu etc and have a second machine, sell it on ebay or make a nice linux server in the basement

Fred, yeah i figured it out after of a huge torture, the first time it was over another linux partition so it detected the swap automatically without having to do anything my self, and the installation was fine. The second time the disk was un-partitioned and it was oh, what a hell!!!!!!, it toke me...

i think loading the whole X and gnome makes the installation to one of my weak machines like a hell, i have to wait 10 minuts to load the mintmenu !!!! and another 10 minutes to move the mouse into the "install icon"

Ok then my friend, if this is what you want. A) Edit your resolv.conf the way you want it. B) sudo gedit /sbin/dhclient-script Find the line: mv -f $new_resolv_conf /etc/resolv.conf And comment it out # $new_resolv_conf /etc/resolv.conf Reboot. tell me if it replaced your resolf.conf again :lol:

Hey your CPU is Athlon 64 X2 5000+ or just Athlon X2 5000+ ? if it is 64 you can try also this:

LoL what firefox version you use in mint 5? at least gather some information right now post it here, then install back the latest version, im sure you will find out what it was. it seems more to be a firefox issue, as if it was drivers or something else it should affect other things as well, right? ...

FedoraRefugee Fedora is not that bad as you describe, im saying this coz everything you said was about codecs and stuff, even in windows Svista, you have to install codecs!!!, Not a big deal, A) Install codecs, B) Install updates C) Install drivers, even a windoze simple task of a fresh installation...
