Re: Dilemma - Mint/Cinnamon or WIN 10
<sigh> I had to step away from this for a few days to clear my head. I started this thread because I was hoping for some positive feedback encouraging me to stick wth Linux. Instead, I get a negative rant from Jim saying how much he hates "Evil Corp." (I presume that's not trademarked by t...

Re: Dilemma - Mint/Cinnamon or WIN 10
What a tired old argument. I've had the same one with one of my best friends back in 87 or so. Boring. My buddy really hated Bill Gates. I didn't think much of him, but he was better than Steve Jobs. But let me ask - do you work for a corporation? Do they know how you feel about having to use their ...

Re: Dilemma - Mint/Cinnamon or WIN 10
There was something I needed to install to get Mint 17.3 to work with my Android phone. I did a search for "Android" on my computer, and I think it was jmtpfs I installed. Hehe... you're making my point for me, jimallyn. Before this latest Samba meltdown, I had no problem viewing and tran...

Dilemma - Mint/Cinnamon or WIN 10
I've been exploring the Linux world for about three years or so, starting with Ubuntu 14.04, then Mint 17.1 and now Mint 17.3. I dual boot this on my test/travel laptop, originally running WIN 7, but upgraded to WIN 10 earlier this year, and subsequently upgraded to the Anniversary edition. I also h...

Re: Update Manager vanished from Sys Tray
Ahh... reading comprehension 101. I read your reply too quickly and missed that you were talking about the sys tray applet, while I was still thinking update mgr, and because the other icons still displayed it did not occur to me to look for the sys tray applet in the applet control panel. You are c...

Re: Update Manager vanished from Sys Tray
Well, that makes this a little more interesting. I checked the applet settings and sure enough, it is not even listed under active or all applets. I thought the tray icon was baked into Cinnamons Update Mgr. So I presume I need to remove and reinstall the mintupdate mgr. I'll do that later and post ...

Re: Update Manager vanished from Sys Tray
Interesting. I noticed the same thing yesterday. Didn't think much about it. Dual booting 17.3 Rosa 64-bit w/Cinnamon 2.8.8 and WIN10 Anniv update. all41 - update mngr is still in the Startup Apps, and as far as I can tell it is running. To me, this is one of those, "hmmm" things, but real...

Hi from San Jose, CA aka Silly-con Valley
I just posted about upgrading from 17.1 to 17.3 with no real problems over in the Chat area, and so I'd thought I'd introduce myself. My handle is a play on my family name, and the fact that unlike the famous dogs, I've trained myself to respond to bells, especially the dinner bell. I'm an ol...

Update 17.1 to 17.3 and... no problems
Long time listener, first time... well, you get the point. So I decided to break the rule of "if it's not broke, have a good reason," and went ahead with the upgrade from 17.1 to 17.3 when it showed up in the Upgrade Manager on Tuesday. Actually, since my laptop is my test/play/travel box ...
