Re: Foxclone - linux image backup, restore & clone

Hi AndyMH, your comment is very helpful, glad you cleared this point. Should be included to User guide. As a non-expert forgive me my naive idea to add an extra feature to foxclone: Why not restore to a smaller HD when the original HD was only partially used? I refere to "geparted" where y...

Re: Foxclone - linux image backup, restore & clone

Hi AndyMH, I want to thank you quite a lot! Since a long time I was looking for such a program like foxclone. Your solution is very convincing. I tested a dual- boot PC with WIN10-64-2004 and Mint 20 installed on SSD-250GB and as backup-HD a 1 TB-SSD equally partitioned as NTFS and ext4. With foxclo...

Re: Which Webcam for Videochat ZOOM and Mint 19.3 ?

Hello Moem, my test using Cheese was succesful. Be be clear, bevor I go on to install ZOOM: did you really used ZOOM with this Logitec Quickcam 9000 PRO bevor? I am yet very gratefull for your info, because I thought this device is not at all useable anymore. Might it be possible to use the micropho...

Which Webcam for Videochat ZOOM and Mint 19.3 ? [SOLVED]

Hello to everyone! There are some discussions on this subject, but mostly how to use outdated devices (like my Logitec Quickcam Pro 9000). I am willing to spend some money to buy a modern webcam which works with 19.3 - 64-bit and perhaps also with WIN10-64 Pro. Would be nice to hear users experience...

Re: Dual boot

Hi Bruce, we must go to the basics: download the Mint19.3 ISO-file and burn it to a DVD, so it is bootable (useful Software xpburner). Boot your PC from DVD and you can test now Mint live without installing it. Mint is running completly in RAM. To be careful and not to delete your WIN10 on HD discon...

Re: Dual boot

It is not clear to me, if your WINDOWS will still boot. Make sure with "gparted" that you have 2 partitiones. One with NTFS and second with ext4-format. I use 1 HD with these 2 partitiones and first installed WIN10 and then Mint19.3. Mint will detect WIN10 and automaticly install on second...

Re: [SOLVED] What program to back up all of my system ?

Hi Lumiere, a little late I admit. But my experience may help you to save time. I use win10-64bit and Mint19.3 on a single (Laptop) HD as Dual-Boot. Tried Timeshift and WinImageBackup, but could not restore neither system WIN nor MINT! Data of course on seperate USB-HD. A solution is certainly Clone...

Re: Clean install of Win10, Clean install of Mint, no windows in grub.

Had the same problem, with WIN10-64 and Mint19.2 on two different disks. You must make shure that both disks are layouted in GPT-Mode. You can check this under WIN10 entering in commandline as Admin: diskpart; then: list disks; The output shows you your online-disks. In the columne GPT should be a &...

Mint 19.2 - Grub problem with dualboot disks

In my system I use 2 hds (GPT-formated): one with WIN10-64 and second with Mint19.2-64 - installing Mint after Win10. The boot-display lets me then choose the wanted OS. This works perfectly. The problem arises when I try to restore a WindowsImageBackup to a new hd. The boot-display shows then follo...

Re: Motherboard support for Intel Z390? (Coffee Lake Refresh)

Some comment on Intel Z390, no direct answer to your problem, but may help to clear doubt on this chipset. My new motherboard GA-Z390-UD with i5-9400 CPU runs perfectly with Mint 19.1 Tessa. Because the old board GA-B150M-D3H had to be replaced I just used the old SSD with installed Mint 19.1 and co...

Which motherboards for Mint19.1 and no Boot-Problems?

Please, need help on buying new board. Want to install Mint 19.1 - 64-bit on up-to-date hardware. Me favorite choice would be GA-Z270P-D3 with CPU-Intel i5-7500. Because I learned from the web of getting the right drivers and also find special bios-setting might be difficult, I would rather ask user...

Re: How to dualboot WIN10 or Mint19 from separate HDs?

Hi ahti and AndyMH, I found, you are right. Checking with a "boot-repair-disk" reveals: WIN10 ist installed with MBR and MINT19 with GPT. To solve this needs obviously a new installation of WIN10. Because my experience in this domain is rather poor, so I leave it as it is and choose the wa...

How to dualboot WIN10 or Mint19 from separate HDs? Solved

Hello to the forum-users, My problem: I have 1 HD with WIN10 and a second with MINT19.1. Entering the BIOS I can choose which HD to boot, because I don't like the 2 OS on 1 HD. I would rather prefere to have a menue to select a HD at boottime instead via Bios. Obviously EasyBCD, Yumi, Grub etc. are...

Re: automatic backup software

Hi jdave, perhaps my earlier posting may help you. Had the same question and found a simple solution in using timeshift. To restore an image just start a Live-DVD and with timeshift you can access the stored image which should of course be on a separate device. Please see attached picture for refere...

Mint19 - system backup & restore: a simple solution

Ever since I had a disc-crash I was searching for an easy way to save and restore my system-drive. Formerly using the Pro-Version of WIN7 and WIN10 where I could create an "WindowsImageBackup" and after replacing the faulty drive restore the system regardless of disc-space considerations: ...

Mint19 32-bit Mediathekview java 8

Working longtime with Mint18.3 und Mediathekview 13.0.6 which worked fine, I switched to Mint 19 Tara. But Mediathekview did not work anymore. After searching the web I found that Mint 19 uses java 10, while the actual Mediathekview needs java 8. After testing different proposals which dealt mostly ...

Mint18: How to start browser from read-only device?

After installing Mint18.1 on an USB-Stick and updating and configuring Firefox Vers. 51.0.1 (32-bit) I locked the device to read-only. During boot the following message appears: BusyBox v1.22.1 (Ubuntu 1:1.22.0-15 ubuntu1) built-in shell (ash) (inittramfs) The idea is to use Firefox with only one fi...
