Hi. Can I set Mint to never upgrade the grub when a new version comes up? I have Mint dual booted with Ubuntu and I want Ubuntu to always maintain the grub

I have a HP 17-g121wm laptop I could never get the graphics on Linux Mint Mate 18.3 to work. I could get it installed but couldn't a graphics driver working. Any idea how to get AMD drivers working on a HP Pavilion 17-g121wm Notebook with AMD Radeon R6 graphics with Mate 18.3? The drivers work on 17.3 but not 18.3

that's why I'm asking. I have tried the live boot of 18.3 and an install. My AMD isn’t supported. Even AMDGPU-PRO doesnt work

grub menu

I have Mint Mate 18 only and cannot get the grub tobappear at boot so I can pick a kernel. My system has slowed on shutdown and restart. I hold down the shift key but the grub menu does not appear. What am I doing wrong?

I don't think 17 or 18 matters as much as using Mate instead of Cinnamon. I absolutely love the Cinnamon layout with Void theme but I have so many problems with it I switched to Mate. I lost many hours of hair pulling misery learning this lol. Hope that helps. Yes I tried 17.3 and 18.

I have Linux Mint Mate 18 with Intel i7-6700K on my pc. I had to avoid Cinnamon and choose Mate. It was a real pain coming to that conclusion.
