Re: Errors installing kernel 4.7

Ok! Thank you both. I have read that 4.7 has improvements and make games run better in Linux. Is that true? I know how to uninstall AMD fglrx drivers but not ndiswrapper. How do I uninstall it? Everytime I try to install a new kernel it gives these errors and get into "fallback mode" when ...

Re: I get errors while installing Kernels

Hi there JeremyB! They do get installed and seem to work even though I get these weird messages during setup. My wireless chipset is atheros 5416|5008 -> AR5416 (5ghz)+AR2133 (2ghz) dual-band. It is supported because i'm on the internets but could it be that some kernels are not with it code...

Re: I get errors while installing Kernels

I found a answer I should add into the kernel to fix the issue but I have no idea how to. I'm not a programmer, just a newbie poking stuff until it breaks. #include <linux/vmalloc.h> If anyone has a similar problem and know how to this may help you. There are not many threads around the we...

Re: Linux Mint 18 “Sarah” MATE – BETA Release

Thank you very much for your website. I mean it. It helps newbies like me a lot! As for the AMD/ATI driver discussion, the closed source one is better in my case. I tested the both X and fglrx from Driver Manager and the fglrx 15.302 from AMD and the last improved by a lot the games, even ...

Re: Removing AMD proprietary Driver=HUGE improvement!?!

Hello, I did some tests and tried different kernel versions with xserver-xorg or fglrx from Driver Manager and, still, they can't compare to the AMD Proprietary Driver Crimson Edition released in 12/18/2015. In my case, Crimson Edition was and is far superior in comparison. Games are soo smooth now ...

Re: Removing AMD proprietary Driver=HUGE improvement!?!

I have a similar computer: Q9400 2.66 - r9 270 - 17.3 x64 cinnamon mint. I'm very new to Linux and have lots to learn and I'd like to game in Linux. What is this FOSS driver? I'm using the Xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.3.0.1-1ubuntu3.1 in 4.4.0.22.generic kernel. -Edit- Just found out the FOSS is the s...

Re: Fresh Mint 17.3, stuck in boot process "keys:"

Maybe you don't need to install the drive. In my case I install nothing, the Atheros driver is included in the kernel of the system. I also moved from Windows to Linux and I understand your way of thinking. In Windows we have to install drivers after we format and install the OS but in Linux, we don...

Error while installing 3.19.0-32 kernel

Hello! I'm a newbie in need of help. I'm on Mint 17.3 Cinnamon 64 bits (I did reinstall the system yesterday without formatting) on AMD R9 270. I got this error on Update Manager window and I never installed 4.3.10 version, not even virtualbox-guest. The 4.2.0.18 and 4.4.0.21 are not insta...

Re: Fresh Mint 17.3, stuck in boot process "keys:"

I had this problem yesterday while I was reinstalling the system without formatting root. I found out it was related to linux kernel. If I choose any other but 3.16.0.38-generic during grub boot, my wi-fi won't show up thus preventing me to connect to the web. I'm running Mint 17.3 (upgraded) Cinnam...

Re: Applications Not Showing or Opening

That's a lesson I learned the hard way.  Thanks for the help. I'll reinstall and see what happens. It is not possible to tell exactly what has gone wrong. As Cosmo said, it is not a good practice to run sudo apt-get upgrade . Upgrading should be done using the Update Manager. You can...
