Re: How Do I Install A Program Using Wine?

If you open a command prompt and type Wine <name of program you want to install> it should work. Does for me. would Wine not have to already be installed on the PC first? I am needing to install MS Office only, I do not want Windows, just Office. EDIT: Terminal informed yes, it does. and the comman...

Re: Solar Panel Satellites for Downlinking Power...

I read about that on a different website. the current project is working fine, initiated by the US Navy. they mention that when it is scaled up, it will be able to provide enough power for a small city. the great thing is, during Ice Storms like Texas just experienced, the beam could be redirected t...

Re: Brother printers

I did see the driver install tool. has brother printers been reliable? I have always used HP. just a comment: I have learned to hate HP printers with Linux. I would never, ever, buy one for myself. have tried to keep them running other folk's PCs and it is a struggle... they run fine, and then they...

Re: Mint "freezes" on desktop when i ask to reboot

Alternate methods would be

Control ALT T ( brings up Terminal )
then type shutdown now

Or, you can create a Keyboard Shortcut and assign a Key Sequence to cause that to happen.

I use Control ALT O

Re: Mint "freezes" on desktop when i ask to reboot

when the desktop freezes:

use the keyboard keys in this order

ALT ( hold it down )
PrntScrn ( press and release

now, strike these keys and wait 2 seconds between each key

R E I S U O

lowercase, no shift key.

that is REISUO which will shut the PC down.

Re: I want tile view instead of detail view in Firefox uploads

I don't I understand what you are trying to accomplish. I have used Firefox since it was invented, and I never, ever, saw a Tile View Firefox does not "upload" to your local PC, it 'Downloads' and then you select the folder to put that file in. If, you are trying to Upload to a Forum, you ...

for TexStudio

I presume, it will be under /home/john/TexStudio

although in Linux it might be all lowercase, and of course, not 'john'

Re: Import user defined words to software dictionary

here you go:

Home > "USERNAME" > .mozilla > firefox > 7a8wvthk.default-release > persdict.dat

this is where it is located on my PC:

/home/john/.mozilla/firefox/7a8wvthk.default-release/persdict.dat

for you, it will be your Username instead of JOHN

Re: How to make gnome keyring prompt reapper again

Are you referring to the Password to log into the Desktop? If so, then go to Menu > Admin > Users and Groups Now you will see all Users who are logged into your system. If you are the only one, click on your name, and enter a new Password. Once that is done, close the app, and test it out by using C...

Re: Has anyone successfully used ReaR to make USB bootable backup

never used ReaR, but did a bit of searching and found this: BACKUP_URL=usb:// To backup to USB storage device, use BACKUP_URL=usb:///dev/disk/by-path/REAR-000 or use a real device node or a specific filesystem label. Alternatively, you can specify the device using USB_DEVICE=/dev/disk/by-path/REAR-0...

shutdown, shutdown now, poweroff - all do not shutdown my laptop that must be a result of the recent loss of Auzzie exports to that place over the big pond.. Seriously though, my older laptop with 18.3 Cinnamon used to hang just as the report stated "Target Shutdown" and there it s...

His wife is a Public Bookkeeper for an Accounting firm, responsible for Weekly Payrolls for several of their clients... her PC was going bonkers, she was really bent out of shape when she would be in the middle of doing payroll and Windows Update would just up and reboot w/o asking her..... it might be if you are familiar with that stuff, which I am not, have never used.

I have an interest in it though, for myself.

Re: What software to use for remote connection?

I suggest setting the Update Manager to full Automatic, behind the scenes. One of the PCs that I maintain remotely, had not been updated since I installed 18.3 Cinnamon about 2 years ago, maybe more? It was acting really strange, some commands would not work... I had installed Teamviewer on it at hi...

Does only closing my browser give me any protection at all? I see you have received great advice here. Here is what I have to say. If you have full control of your PC (nobody else can get to it), then you don't need any of these procedures. If others have access to your PC, but cannot sign into you...

Re: What software to use for remote connection?

I have found that I need to be the one at the keyboard when Teamviewer is installed, so that I can go to the Options/Extras control window. there I check the box for "AutoStart with PC" ( it remains hidden from the Desktop ) then I enter a Remote Control Password of my own choosing. With t...
