Re: Canonical says 18.04 will now be LTS for 10 yrs

If that will dribble down to us end users in Mint, that can be a good thing.

I won't "upgrade" to a new version until the one I have is no longer supported,
and then that means that the "new version" is almost end of life already... and I am having to learn new tweaks to make it "my style".

Re: I am tired and I want to go to bed...

My biggest problem is laying in one place for more than 2 or 3 hours, I wake up with muscles hurting.

I swap between my bed and the living room recliner at least twice a night.

Re: Testing Satellite Internet service

i pay $10 USD with a 1TB cap on a 10Mbps service which is not a cap but a limit for my discount. if i go over 1TB a month i'll be charged the regular $50 which used to be $37 4 years ago (This plan is not offered everywhere). i have to fight every year for a better contract/discount but i shouldn't...

Re: Testing Satellite Internet service

the plans have changed in the last month or so. Currently, the lowest level is Bronze and 25 Mbps down, I was told that they upgraded everyone to that plan for the prices you are paying, that is only equitable... it seems that their webpages keep changing back and forth, https://www.exede.com/plan-r...

Testing Satellite Internet service

from midnight at 00:01 Wed 11/14 thru about noon, my AT&T DSL service had more than 25 outages..... I had been talking with a ViaSat rep for a couple of weeks, and somehow, he heard my inner sense fuming really bad... I was really upset that we had almost zero internet.... he called me right at noon...

Re: Is there some kind of utility for Linux Mint to improve overall system speed and performance?

Two comments, a faster spinning HDD, I went from a ~5200 to a ~7200... helped a bit, not all that dramatic. Replaced the HDD with a SSD, and simultaneously installed more RAM. don't recall how long it used to take to boot up, but the difference was astounding. it is now about 30 seconds power on to ...

Re: Install Evernote on Linux Mint 18.2, 64 bits, KDE edition [SOLVED]

I gave up on Evernote's DE apps.

I still use it extensively, but only as a Web accessed database.
I can't do without it, have not found anything that works nearly as well.

and since it is password protected, I feel reasonably safe with it.
I really enjoy the fact that my cellphone can access it.

Re: And the Most Popular Desktop is............

Good article, I agree with everything the author wrote. It's nothing new, mind you, we've discussed this here before, most recently at length in the What sends noobs running back to Windows thread. I quit reading that thread after the 2nd page.... 30+ years of Windows IT support is enough for me, m...

Re: I am tired and I want to go to bed...

I agree, it is NOT that we won't get another cat, it is just that with an upcoming long vacation trip planned with us living in our Toy Hauler trailer for 3 to 5 weeks, it is just not something that we want to deal with trying to train a new cat, or kitten. it will be my daughter's last chance to go...

a good article reflecting on the success of, and the failure of Linux is the Desktop. and the fact that none of the developers are willing to bend, and meet up with a common goal. https://www.computerworld.com/article/3320859/linux/the-linux-desktop-with-great-success-comes-great-failure.html Micros...

Re: I am tired and I want to go to bed...

I sleep on a King size Air Mattress, it is the same sleeping height above the floor, as normal mattresses are setting in bed frames. You obviously don't have any cats. We have one, she is 18 years old and getting thinner, and lighter by the week  Her front paws were dethorned as a young ...

Re: PDF Editors in Software Manager

MASTER PDF Editor does the job quite well. Just now tried it to see what happens.... just be aware that all of the white space is eliminated and the text is crammed together..... All of the Page Numbers are gone.... if it is a long document, this is a mess. https://code-industry.net/free-pdf-editor/...

Sleep is over-rated is true, right up to the point you do something stupid... I sleep on a King size Air Mattress, it is the same sleeping height above the floor, as normal mattresses are setting in bed frames. I also have a 2 inch thickness of foam between the mattress and my flannel mattress cover...

Dear all41, why is this: Just leave the 10 percent-ish at the end of the drive unallocated and you should be good to go ? Greetings Erik Jan To allow the drive to reassign "bad blocks" to good blocks at the end of the drive. the SMART controller will do that behind the scenes protecting your data f...

With the time it takes to partition drives, or move partitions around,

why would you want to see more than just one drive at a time?

After reading through

I think that Gparted is the best of them all.

Re: Easiest way to share files between Android phone and Linux Mint XFCE over wifi?

On Android I use Cx File explorer (because ES is not safe now). That and many other file explorers can create an FTP server. Just note down the address that says ftp://192.168.1.1:1234 Where ftp://192.168.1.1 is server and 1234 is the port. Enter this information in the laptop/pc's file explorer af...
