Re: Cell Phone Compatibility?

It's possible to connect a Android phone to laptop wirelessly with Airdroid or with a mini USB cable. I can certify this, I use several different Android phones. Samsung S5 which is a terrific device yet today, it is still Flagship quality. and a couple of older Samsung devices from 10 years ago. t...

Re: Not Linux, this is the famous Windows OS intentionally breaking your Bluetooth devices

Portreve , I can see the Linux Mint community accomplishing that. There are a lot of good, knowledgeable people on this forum, and the ones that are new here generally want too learn about Linux. The Linux community, on the other hand, has a reputation - maybe a better word is perception - of dismi...

Re: New Firefox problem

To the best of my knowledge, Firefox will restore the application window to its previous position and size on startup. I.e. in case Firefox is maximized when you close it, it should startup maximized next time. I checked the Firefox commandline options, yet, I did not find a any option to make Fire...

Re: Need help to talk a friend thru installing HP Deskjet 3512 scanner

That printer requires HPLIP 3.12.9 or newer, and Mint 18.3 comes with HPLIP 3.16.3, so there should be no need to install HPLIP. Has your friend actually tried scanning? I think 18.3 comes with SimpleScan, but I prefer xsane, so I always install that. She says no, but I did not install xsane or Sim...

Re: Need help to talk a friend thru installing HP Deskjet 3512 scanner

And, did it work? I've seen, that hplip 3.16.3 ist implemented in LM 18.3 by default. Because the printer is an older model, LM 18.3 would have to recognize the printer by itself, too, respectively it could be installed in the printer dialogue in the menue without installing another driver. When I ...

Re: Need help to talk a friend thru installing HP Deskjet 3512 scanner

Here you can download the driver for the mentioned HP-printer/scanner. On the left side you find the install instruction: https://developers.hp.com/hp-linux-imaging-and-printing/gethplip Tnx, she is a tax accountant, and I put 18.3 Cinnamon on her PC because the M$ system kept crashing with blue sc...

Re: Why Some Truetype Fonts Render Poorly...

I for one, could care less about who designed a font.

if I want it, I will use it.

But, in Linux, True Type has not performed well for me, and I use the defaults.

I have to ask, just what is 'ROS' and what is it good for?

Google and the Disro page for ROS http://wiki.ros.org/melodic

fails miserably at explaining what this software is, used for?

Re: What printer should I get?

I would really suggest looking at the Epson ET series. I have the ET-2550 and they have a Linux driver for it. The biggest cost saving factor is their big Ink Tanks. They hold enough ink to run Full Color for a year, and the bottles of ink cost around $10-$12 bux. We run test sheets through it every...

Re: Using LibreOffice to edit regular texxt files

I paste all of my web stuff to xed to strip out the junk that LibreOffice tends to retain.

much the same as I did with Windows Notepad and Word.....

I only use LO to write documents, never text files.
although, you can try and tell it to convert to Plain Text, but it really does not.

Re: Cheap Laptop Suggestions

I bought a brand new ASUS TUF Gaming laptop with Intel cpu, and a weird graphics chip that ONLY Mint 19.1 recognizes..... a fact that really aggravates me, as I do not like 19.1 at all. it is NOT a cheap laptop, I was looking for a fast one, super fast one, and made a huge mistake in not researching...

Tried MX and Manjaro and Lubuntu, many others. the only version that I like, and will continue to use, is 18.3 Cinnamon, simply because it is so smooooth and svelte. it just simply performs, day after day without giving me any problems..... ( this all ignores my learning period back when ) I despise...

Metered only works for wireless. GPEdit works for me, IF I can get .net working. On Windows 10 I've spent more time cleaning it and keeping it the way I want than actually using it... You may want to try "Blackbird" suggested by someone elsewhere on this forum. tnx for that hint, that is going onto...
