Re: How to check network usage history

vnstat is the tool I see most often recommended. It's probably installed already ... I'm typing this on 17.3 and it's there. But you have to activate it apparently, the system doesn't seem to preserve network history through rebooots by default. 18.3 Cinnamon does not have it installed by default. ...

Old network security standards are being dropped

apparently by all browsers at once. just a few hours ago, Firefox popped up a security warning for this forum's website and would not allow me to even see the forum. I had to waive the warning and establish that it is okay..... https://techcrunch.com/2018/10/15/major-browsers-simultaneously-drop-sup...

Re: Will Timeshift do it???

I gave up TB years ago, it is just too slow to stay in Sync with my Yahoo web email account. I have lots of folders and save things important to me. Trying to save something in TB in a folder that exists on Yahoo, even though it is mimicked in TB, is a PITA. too slow..... but, over the last year, Ya...

Diabetes works much the same, you can fight it for a while, but it always wins..... almost to the same dates: she was diagnosed in 2009 and passed Jan 2017 She? I know all about diabetes. I added it to my large and growing collection of age-related diseases about two years ago. Oops! bad typo My Wi...

Re: Will Timeshift do it???

Realize it is getting late for you,
it is super easy, once you know it.

just left click on the backup you wish to use, then mouse up to Restore and click on that.
it will do a full Restore, tell you what it is doing, and then it will reboot the PC
have you tried the Restore?

Re: Will Timeshift do it???

Hello AZgl1500, Thank you so much for replying to my post! Right now I'm trying to download the last version of T-Bird and installing it with GDebi but am not having much success. I looked at Timeshift but am not sure how to use it to restore my machine. I did however see that there is a snapshot j...

Re: Extracting/burning Linux Mint 19 ISO to DVD

I will certainly try Waterfox. Pale Moon was recommended to me on a conservative politics forum as a good alternative to Firefox. On there they believe that Firefox sends your browsing history to a subsidiary of Amazon (Amazon Web Services, I think they called it) every time it's launched, I doubt ...

Re: Upgrade to T'bird 60.2.1 zaps Lightning Calender add-on

Earlier today, was running Thunderbird 51.9.1 in LM 18.3 (Cinnamon, 64-bit). Then the update manager said an update to v 60.2.1 was available, so i applied it. I relaunched T'bird 60.2.1 to find the Lightning add-on unavailable. How do I get Lightning to work in 60.2.1? Force roll-back to an earlie...

Re: AutoShutdown on Low Battery not available

It used to be eons ago, have not thought about it at all, until that thread came up, about the Battery Monitor. I installed that fix, but it obviously did not fix the AutoShutdown on Critical Battery. Don't think anything unusual is in Grub, except for trying to make USB mouse AutoSuspend work, whic...

Re: Will Timeshift do it???

IF, you have a Timeshift backup created prior to that Update, the answer is YES. it will totally backup your OS to where it was as of, the point in time, that Timeshift made that snapshot. just make sure you don't allow any updates to occur until you retrieve all the info you want, OR, you can just ...

Re: hard drive partition

I wouldn't bother creating a separate /boot partition. Just my opinion. I agree also. just an example of what I did with a 500gB SSD all you really need is / /home swap I have half of my SSD set aside as a backup for the first half, linked as seen below. Gparted.png EDIT: my swap is minuscul...

Re: Installing LMDE3 from Cinnamon

I have 18.3 Cinnamon and LMDE3-Cindy installed on my SSD.

Two separate partitions, each is exclusive to itself, but can access a 3rd partition for /home

as mentioned, they are two entirely differently based OS versions.

Re: Leopards do change their spots, and why you should care

Edit: We'll need to see much faster internet connections across the entire planet before it can practically happen. I second this, I am still on DSL which is twice as fast as 90% of the population around my home who are using a radio service to give them Public WiFi at "up to 5mpbs during a very qu...
