Re: Use of TimeShift for 2 systems

The other option is to create 2 partitions on the drive, one for each system. Configure timeshift accordingly on each system. In my case, the picture shows a USB 6T HDD, and I did not want to waste partition space just for Timeshift and Aptik. so, I came up with the renaming scheme. Sure. If you go...

Re: Wireless dongle to replace Edimax

I use a Panda PAU06 USB WiFi adapter and so far, all the kernels recognize it and up comes WiFi.

it is cheap...

that allows me to install the proper drivers for the laptop, so I can unplug the dongle.

Re: Win10 over-rode my settings to prevent Updates

it is the Home Edition, and I had read that somewhere.

it was worth a try, it made her mad when the computer slowed down so bad she could not finish the work she was doing.
and it is a fast machine.

Win10 over-rode my settings to prevent Updates

Interesting Win10 experience on preventing Updates. This is my daughter's Win10 Acer laptop, new as of last September. it came with Win10 natcherly..... and she is not happy with that. a few weeks ago, I followed this page to edit the Registry https://www.windowscentral.com/how-stop-updates-installi...

Re: Use of TimeShift for 2 systems

it is "easy" provided that you do a little bit of extra effort. I have several different Mint versions using Timeshift to the same /backup partition. the first Timeshift folder needs to have a text document created inside it, name it 18.3 Cinn ASUS for example. now, back out of that folder and renam...

Re: Ethernet going strange most every time I update

Typical if your computer's WiFi or Internet adapter is not supported by the kernels... Mine is not, every time a new kernel is installed, I have to go through the reinstall of the WiFi driver. Mine has MediaTek. Broadcom is another difficult one to make work out of the box. I have read that Intel Wi...

I have been using Teamviewer for years, and never had any security issues with it.

I like the File Transfer Mode that it provides, without having to log off and log back in.

sorry folks, I went to a rural school and no foreign languages were presented.... shame. You asked this question two days ago and got this answer. boy, I must have missed "new posts" on that thread somehow, and zipped right by it. that was one wonderful tip from DAMIEN1307 that took care of the fon...

Re: What Standard Tweaks and apps do you always add to a fresh OS install?

I tend to agree with that reasoning , and the standard advice here and elsewhere is to only install from Software Manager . Clearly that does not apply so much to " computer buffs " for want of better term ( and I dislike the phrase " power user " ) . The " average user " just wants a system that w...

Re: What Standard Tweaks and apps do you always add to a fresh OS install?

It was beneficial to me to alert me to 3 apps that I had installed to try out, then forgot what they were. went and opened them up again to verify that I don't need/want them... click and they are gone now. I have watch Aptik while it compiles that list of installed apps, it is huge................ ...

Remove extraneous Fonts and Language Packs [ Solved ]

When I want to change the font, I am met with a trillion different fonts from almost every country in the world. while it is neat that Linux supports everyone regardless of locale, I only want English US, and the old standard fonts. going thru Software Manager to get rid of the extra ones is tedious...

Re: Google is STILL tracking you — here's how to limit it

it says you can delete your web history at anytime.

but, in the little link, it says you can only PAUSE, the action, it has not effect on past history stored on their servers.

for myself, I don't give a crap, nothing I have but food stamps anyway.

^ that's the Mint Software Manager. That's not the 18.3 Cinnamon Software Manager, this is 18.3 Cinnamon Click on the hamburger menu. I can't find "hamburger" anywhere, not in the regular 18.3 menu, nor in Software Manager. john@john-TP500LA ~ $ showHamburgerMenu: true showHamburgerMenu:: command n...
