Re: BrosTrend RTL8812AU WiFi adapter not active

Any thoughts on why the BrosTrend is coming up, showing the WiFi signals available and IF, it will connect to one, it drops off after about 60 seconds? and now, at the present time, the BrosTrend is only showing that 2.4g is available. When I earlier had to turn on my Verizon MiFi JetPack and connec...

Re: Privacy in Firefox Is not what you think it is

A lot of people have such worries and I think that this is wise. Personally I feel more at home with Waterfox, which means trusting Alex Kontos... so who really knows? At least it's open source so cleverer folks than I am can check his claims. By the way, AZgl1500, I'm pretty certain that Waterfox ...

Re: BrosTrend RTL8812AU WiFi adapter not active

I found this WiFi NIC last night, and ordered it. I hope that it works with my ASUS TP500L which does have the Intel cpu and video hardware. https://www.amazon.com/Dual-Band-Wirless-Bluetooth-PCI/dp/B01E85QIFI?ref_=Oct_TopRatedC_13983731_1&pf_rd_p=1e1d6708-35aa-5d60-bec8-d679ffb88e71&pf_rd_s=merchan...

Re: BrosTrend RTL8812AU WiFi adapter not active

Can you change the wifi router settings? I would put it on channel 1 and change encryption to WPA2 only without TKIP. What happens when you sudo modprobe 8812au john@john-TP500LA ~ $ sudo modprobe 8812au [sudo] password for john: john@john-TP500LA ~ $ Channel "1" is the 2.4g band, I am trying to ge...

Re: Privacy in Firefox Is not what you think it is

hi Lazy and Stupid! ..... Your worry, is all your own, I have used Firefox since it was born in its' infancy stages, and I have YET to have been handed over to the wolves.... Sorry but I am very sceptical of that claim. I would disagree and merely ask "How would you know that you had not been turne...

Re: Privacy in Firefox Is not what you think it is

hi Lazy and Stupid! It is Precisely because Firefox works the way it does, that it is my only Daily Browser. that .sqlite file contains over 10,000 bookmarks for me and makes it easy to go back to Amazon, et all, and navigate easily without taking 20 minutes to wade thru a process of getting to wher...

Re: Drivers for WiFi adapter not installing

if, you just happen into a local store, the Panda series WiFi USB adapters are supported by Mint. I have the PAU06 2.4g version and it works just fine. I am currently trying to get my new BrosTrend 5g USB WiFi working, ( same chipset ) and used the steps above as recommended, and it worked once........

Re: BrosTrend RTL8812AU WiFi adapter not active

I saw another thread about the same chipset recommending this page: Try this: https://easylinuxtipsproject.blogspot.c ... k.html#ID5 (item 5) I followed that, and it works, BUT, I noted that it is building the drivers inside /home and that means when a new kernel is installed, it won't work anymore....

Re: question on notifications CAPS LOCK

Because that is usually a function of the BIOS. on my laptop, clicking the Caplock key puts up a screen overlay, and it has nothing to do with the OS installed. it was that way on Win8.1 and now on any version of Linux that I install. even if I am running VirtualBox, the overlay pops up The same goe...

Thanks. I should point out that finding my post wasn't easy, as I had to dig around trying to find it. It would be good if there was a link to your posts if you get a Notification. Found this post via Quick Links, anyway. You can set up Notifications in your User Profile Manager. go to the upper ri...

Re: Need to " Align to Grid " - [ Solved by accident ]

that 960 caused me to have to scroll everything sideways :(

don't know why it won't go back to 1366 dpi, but it took 1360 and figured "close enough"

Note to self:

when someone needs help, go to VirtualBox and play with that instead.

Re: Need to " Align to Grid " - [ Solved by accident ]

for whatever reason,

the Developers decided to let me check on ' Auto Arrange ' again, and it reverted back to ' Align to Grid '

??

why was the Option Align to Grid greyed out then?

it is fixed, but I want to know why??

Need to " Align to Grid " - [ Solved by accident ]

I was helping a friend by showing him around the controls on Mint..... and duh, I changed my personal laptop to 960 dpi instead of the normal 1366 dpi and then, showed him how to Auto Arrange........... and I hate that mode now, I can't get it to go back to 'Align to Grid', that control is now greye...

BrosTrend RTL8812AU WiFi adapter not active

Just bought a new BrosTrend WiFi 5g WiFi adapter, that uses the RTL8812AU chip. Driver Manager recognized it, and installed the appropriate DKMS driver. However, it is not showing up as an active device. https://i.imgur.com/4xJkUqo.png $ inxi -Fzxd System: Host: john-TP500LA Kernel: 4.15.0-43-generi...

Re: Cinnamon over XFCE; Worth it?

Well, I've just made a backup with Clonezilla so I think I'll give Cinnamon a try but should I use the Ubuntu or the Debian version? Been playing around a little on Virtualbox and the Ubuntu version lets me add ppa to customize icons/themes and add software but the Debian is supposed to be rock sol...
