Re: Firefox URL line changed to blue
Have you tried switching the "theme" in Firefox back to "System theme - auto"? It could be the theme writer decided that they want a more blend-in URL bar. I had the Firefox Logo theme from years ago, the big Orange ball on the right, just disabled it, that left a grey URL blend...

Re: New to Linux, trying to understand the playing field
my Desktop still contains shortcuts to projects that I work on everyday My old xp desktop used to be set up with groups of related icons a bit like that, but with slightly less "free" space! Only issue was, sometimes something would bork and all the icons would be re-shuffled and laid out...

Re: Distro Selection and Understanding.
for the casual Desktop home user? Linux Mint Cinnamon is my DE of choice. why? because it emulates the MS Windows GUI so much, that a newbie can transition from MS Win11 to LM21.3 Cinnamon in one day, and not feel like he landed on Mars. this forum provides hands on Support that just simply cannot b...

Re: New to Linux, trying to understand the playing field
am I old enough to be a greybeard? at 81 this month? been with PCs since the 300 baud tape was the backup means of choice, for us peons with a $5 budget. I dropped Windows when it hit 8.0 and switched to Linux Mint Cinnamon with LM17.3 why? Because the Desktop Environment resembled the MS Windows so...

and to answer one question that was omitted: Can you use a Partition on the same Drive as the OS. the answer is YES, and I have been doing so for many years. Current and recent SSD drives are very reliable, in fact, I have never, ever had a SSD drive fail yet, since 2017. my SSD looks like this, all...

Firefox URL line changed to blue
This just occurred yesterday, I don't recall a Firefox update, but I never look at all of the updates, I just install them. the URL has changed to a Blue background and this makes trying to CUT a portion of the URL very difficult, for those of us who have Blue Blocker eyeglasses... it is nearly invi...

Re: Install or Upgrade?
I interpret that to mean it already exists, but you have the option to "install" a newer version.
or "upgrade the current version",
which is essentially the same thing.
I never bother to wonder about those cryptic messages, I just click INSTALL and let it go.

Timeshift to the Rescue
Last night, I used my daily driver laptop to make a full LM21.3 Cinnamon install on a 16GB flashdrive. of course, during that process, you have to tell it where to place " / " and that should have ONLY pertained to the install of Mint on the flash drive. but, alas, it wrote it to my laptop...

Re: New Messages When Shutting Down
I have Grub set to display startup and shutdown, so that I know it reached "target shutdown" and from there, I watch to see if the USB keyboard lights go out.
if not, trouble abounds, and I have to use the BIOS power button,
fortunately, that has been a long time ago now.

Re: Battery life in Linux
I was wondering, if I want to put a laptop into long-term storage without use, what should I do in terms of charging it beforehand? Should it have a certain percentage of charge? Have a great weekend and thanks again. the general consensus, is to charge the Lithium battery to about 40%, then remove...

Re: Yet another reason I won't buy LG products.
I have a very old Samsung 30" wide monitor that I bought back around 2005
it uses the HMDI video cable or VGA or the 3 independent cables with RCA connectors ( gasp! )
on HDMI, it works just fine with a 20 year old Gateway desktop and LM21.3 Cinnamon.
Mint even knows what it is...

Can't figured it out. Why it is not done. Anybody has any idea as to why it is not implemented???? Because you cannot guarantee the computer will be on at the time selected. Which is one of the reasons I don't recommend automating snapshots. invalid reason Jeannie, each snapshot is Timestamped, and...

Re: Timeshift Snapshot timing
you can "sort of select" the time it runs. delete all of the snapshots, set the schedule to run one at Boot, select the other options as you wish. Restart the PC, it will run a snapshot about 10 minutes after it boots up. then it will run new snapshots at about the same time each day, unle...
