Re: Catastrophic crash and reinstallation of LM17.3

Grub was probably trying to find the flash drive. It will go into a error loop for minutes before giving up and booting Mint. That's what happened to me. Black screen . Go for a coffee. come back to a mint screen. :)

Re: card reader flashing on and off

This has to do with USB3 and gnome disk. If I open disk and highlight generic storage device , it shows o then .05mb , then o then .o5 mb ..forever. This is with a USB2 thumb plugged in or not. The solution is to go to more actions at the top of the screen and choose "power off" The drive snaps to s...

Howdy,I have a nMedia i18-C28 card reader : http://www.nmediapc.com/i18c28.htm installed in my Mint computer [look in my signature]. It's called a generic storage device in Preferences>Disks. And it was flashing on and off until I unmounted it-killed the auto mount. I found out about this oddity by ...

Re: boot stall with bad internal storage drive

Yup, I rebooted and the desktop came up in less than a minute with no stalls or errors.

Do you still want me to upload to pastebin?

I burnt a disk called "super grub2 disk" so if this happens again I'll be able to bypass my corrupted grub.
Any ideas why my grub was corrupted? :D

Re: boot stall with bad internal storage drive

This works. While booting press and hold the left shift key. Then tap the "s" key about twice a second for about the slow count to 300 [about three minutes or until the error loop quits.] I found out that hard drive "storage" was unmounted in the file system but not grub. Grub still searches for the...

boot stall with bad internal storage drive

howdy,I have a problem booting up Mint 17.3. In the file system I mounted two internal hard drives "storage" and "storage2". Both identical drives with different files on them. I unmounted "storage" and shut down. My backplane failed on disk 3 which was "storage" during the night. Later fixed by sli...

Re: Mint file managers

Boy did I ever find a powerful search engine!
It's called "grep -r" and you type it into a terminal along with the stuff you're trying to find.

Re: Mint file managers

:) I'm not dissatisfied with anything in Mint right now.
I was wandering around inside Mint and this question popped up, although I think it applies to any distro.

Mint file managers

What's the difference between Nemo in the task bar and Archive Manager in Programs?
Some were saying Rox was way different.
I presume I could install a bunch of different file search engines in Mint, but they would be doing the same job?
