Re: Sound not working on Ideapad 530S

I went to the tips link in the signature of MrEen.

Deleting the files in /.config/pulse and the issuing command pulseaudio -k fixed the problem.

Thank you !

Re: Sound not working on Ideapad 530S

Thanks MrEen. I normally use only the internal speakers or a bluetooth headset. On Sunday I did briefly test the HDMI connection to the TV, but stopped because I couldn't figure out how to get it to work properly. Maybe that triggered something. pacmd list-cards 2 card(s) available. index: 0 name: <...

Re: Thunderbird refuses to use my default profile

Why not continue to use the 68.2.2 you've been using?
That's what I'm doing.

[Solved] Sound not working on Ideapad 530S

I have sounds mostly muted on this laptop so I have no idea when this problem of no sounds actually started. But now that is the situation. I have very little clue on where to start searching. inxi -Fxz System: Host: ideapad Kernel: 5.3.0-24-generic x86_64 bits: 64 compiler: gcc v: 7.4.0 Desktop: Ci...

Thunderbird refuses to use my default profile

I have been using Thunderbird 68 for some time already. Installed and invoked separately from the version that comes with Mint. Today the Mint version of Thunderbird upgraded to version 68.2.1. Yess! I have been using version 68.2.2. Apparently the difference is big enough for Thunderbird 68.2.1 to ...

Re: Linux mint 19.2 asennus

Asennusmedian tekemiseksi suosittelen USB-muistitikkua.

Re: Personal "cloud"

You have a manual backup procedure; would that be, perchance, your way of ensuring that a virus or other malware would not be able to trash your backup too? Or, are there other mechanisms within the backup system that protect the backup drives? Does the "Nextcloud server" direct data to your LAN sy...

Re: Personal "cloud"

How did you connect the storage to the Pi? Externally powered usbs to power the disks? USB expander to expand USB ports from one to many?
USB connected 500GB SSD. SSD is already cheap enough and doesn't need too much power. The Pi 4 has USB 3.0 ports, so it's fast enough.

Re: Personal "cloud"

Maybe I have understood things completely wrong, but I like Timeshift. As my system changes seldom in a major way and Linux is easy and quick to update, I have set Timeshift to make Monthly and Weekly snapshots and to keep 1 of each. In addition, I might do a unscheduled snapshot before some updates...

Re: Tricky problem with caret, tilde and grave accent keyboard keys, swedish keybaord

My keyboard is defined as Finnish, but is should be the same as yours (physically I have the French azerty keyboard, since I live in France and this Ideapad was bought here) To get the caret, I press shift plus the key after Å and then space to get only the caret ^ , or a character like ê For grave ...

Re: Personal "cloud"

Here's another alternative: https://www.techradar.com/how-to/computing/how-to-build-your-own-raspberry-pi-nas-1315968 I have a Raspberry Pi 4 running NextcloudPi cloud server (with 500GB SSD), and a Asustor NAS next to it with the "terabytes" for media files and backups. Re: Lenovo Laptop

I would upgrade the kernel to version 5.0, or even 5.3
That fixed my issues with wifi and touchpad.

Old fashioned HDD? It would definitely not be on my shopping list.
SSD or NVMe is a must nowadays. I'm surprised HDD equipped laptops are still for sale.

Re: gm10's Linux Mint Tools PPA

I would remove the newer ones. If they don't work properly, why keep them around?
You can always install them again if you want.

By the way, have you tried the 5.3 kernels? I'm very satisfied with 5.3

Re: Touchpad works then stops working

I would try a newer kernel. My Ideapad had similar issues at 4.15 level. Kernel 4.18 was minimum. I think Mint 19.2 comes with kernel 5.0.
Now I'm running kernel 5.3.0 but I'm maybe a bit peculiar :)
