Re: Linux Kernel 5.3.0.53-110

If you have the canonical-kernel-team/ppa in your software sources, then you can get kernel 5.4.0-31
At least for me it fixed the problem, and also a second problem: system freezing randomly.

Re: System freezing every now and then

To close this issue: the recently available kernel 5.4 seems to have solved this problem of freezing for me.
Installed 4 days ago and I haven't had any freezes since.

Re: New Lenovo Thinkpad and Linux Mint

Apparently things have slightly changed since I setup this Ideapad 15 months ago. Found this advice: "Unplug your ethernet and disconnect your Wi-Fi, so when you try to create a Microsoft account is says 'Something went wrong'. Crucially, the option to skip this process now appears. Once you click t...

Re: New Lenovo Thinkpad and Linux Mint

You can setup Windows without a Microsoft account. Just make sure you are not connected to the internet when you boot and during the setup process.

I would setup Windows only to update BIOS, unless that Thinkpad has other possibilities than running a Windows program.

Re: Anyone else having issues Kernel 5.3.0-53.109?

I had also rolled back to .51 and removed .53

Today I noticed that 5.4.0-31 appeared in Kernel Manager, maybe because I have canonical-kernel-team PPA enabled. I installed it, rebooted and it seems to work well. I rebooted again to test if Restart works and yes, it does.

Re: Anyone else having issues Kernel 5.3.0-53.109?

I can also confirm these problems on my Lenovo Ideapad Ryzen 5 2500U Vega 8. Rollback to -51 done.
Comforts to know I'm not alone and that the bug is reported.

Re: [Solved] Garbled display on Lenovo Ideapad with mesa drivers from oibaf PPA

The bug has been fixed. I just installed Mesa 20.2.0-devel (git-9c839e6 2020-05-11 bionic-oibaf-ppa), and there were no issues after reboot.

Re: Garbled display on Lenovo Ideapad with mesa drivers from oibaf PPA

It's comforting to know I'm not alone :-)

I tried the update of yesterday evening ... same result. Reverted back to May 7 level. I disabled the oibaf PPA for the moment, and sent a message to oibaf via Launchpad.

[Solved] Garbled display on Lenovo Ideapad with mesa drivers from oibaf PPA

I have been a long time happy user of oibaf PPA for graphic drivers for my Lenovo Ideapad. Two updates daily is a bit much, but I manage. Since yesterday evening's update there is a problem. After reboot the display is totally garbled, impossible to do anything else than power off. I tried again tod...

Re: Linux Mint Ryzen Users check in (2020)

I'm running Ryzen 5 2500U, Linux Mint Cinnamon with kernel 5.3
Newer kernel than 4.15 was mandatory for touchpad and wifi support.

I do have a problem with occasional freeze, where hard reboot is only solution. Probably a GPU problem (Vega 8).

I installed Lubuntu 20.04 in a VM just to see what is looks like. There's no snap at all in that variety.

Re: Looking for a cheap server

I'm also recommending Raspberry Pi. I have a Pi 4 (4GB RAM) running as Nextcloud server, with a 256GB SSD attached. The NextcloudPi package has everything needed for setup, security, firewall, automatic updates, etc. I even set a domain name for it, so it is accessible from the outside. Perfect solu...

Re: System freezing every now and then

I'm having freezes too. Complete lock-ups. The mouse pointer doesn't move. Ctrl+Alt+F1 does not work. Ctrl+Alt+Backspace doesn't work. Sound starts repeating the same thing over and over again. No SysRq combinations work. The only thing that works, is to hold down the power button until (maybe 10 s...

Re: System freezing every now and then

Thanks Pjotr, actually I had just rebooted with the 5.3 kernel because the 5.6 made the screen go totally crazy. I followed all "disable visual effects" steps. And actually I've been using oibaf PPA for some time already. Let's see if the visual effect removal helps. Switching to "traditional" from ...

OK, I installed kernel 5.6.4 with Ukuu. Installation went without problems, except for a bunch of messages about possible missing firmware for various adm graphics chips/cards.
Let's see how it goes.

[Solved] System freezing every now and then

My Lenovo Ideapad freezes every now and then. Sometimes after a few days, sometimes after a few hours. Keyboard does not work, touchpad does not work. Only power off button helps. Now this time I had a look at /var/log/syslog and found these lines repeated many times before the hard reboot: Apr 13 1...

Re: Lenovo Ideapad L340, no wireless adapter detected

Remembering my experiences with this Ideapad 530S, I would recommend upgrading the kernel to at least version 4.19 (you have 4.15 now), even 5.3 which I'm running. Maybe the easiest way would be to install the tools of @gm10 . See https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=120&t=294048 Then you ha...
