Re: (SOLVED) Ideapad 530S Wifi not recognised after 20.1 install
Just a comment, no new suggestions:
I have almost the same Ideapad 530S, the AMD version, with the same wifi driver. And it works as it should.
Yes, having wifi power management off is mandatory. I also "dkms enabled" this driver, so it gets automatically re-included with kernel updates.

Re: Facebook Ad Blocking Techniques and Strategies
NextDNS is not something you run on your machine. You create your configurations on the site my.nextdns.io and then you specify this configuration on your device. I have made two configurations, one for more or less static computers (office iMac, laptop) and one for mobile devices (smartphone, table...

Re: Facebook Ad Blocking Techniques and Strategies
I'm using Firefox with add-on Facebook Container (and add-on Firefox Multi-Account Containers for other sites, like Amazon, banking, etc). Keeps them "contained". Of course, uBlock Origin and Privacy Badger are there too. In addition I'm running NextDNS with suitable blocking lists selecte...

Re: Which kernel on LM 20.1?
If you're on Mint 20, you can already install kernel 5.8 from Update Manager - View - Linux Kernels
I installed it yesterday and it works well.
If it doesn't work, it's easy to revert to the old one.

Re: Mint and Win10 on separate HD's. Can't boot Mint
I would try two things: in BIOS, disable Secure Boot and check if there is a setting for boot order. If there is, move Linux Mint to first position (might be called Ubuntu). On my Lenovo laptop I had to do these. And every time I update the BIOS, the boot order gets reset with Windows10 first, and I...

Lisäksi olen asettanut Secure Boot -option Off.

Re: [Solved] Not working: dim screen and turn off after delay
The kernel update of today, to 5.4.0-52, apparently changed something. Or maybe just the reboot could have helped.
Issue resolved.

[Solved] Not working: dim screen and turn off after delay
Since a few days the dimming of the screen and turning it off does not work as defined in Power Management preferences. The screen just stays on even if it should turn off after 15 mins of inactivity (and dim after 10 mins). I don't know exactly when this behaviour started, so I don't know which upd...

Re: Realtek TP-Link Archer T3U Issues
I have the T4U version, Realtek RTL8822BU. I think the T3U is RTL8812BU. Drivers are in this package https://github.com/RinCat/RTL88x2BU-Linux-Driver that I'm using. To install: git clone https://github.com/cilynx/rtl88x2bu cd rtl88x2bu VER=$(sed -n 's/\PACKAGE_VERSION="\(.*\)"/\1/p' dkms....

Re: Installing SSD & Mint by removing one HDD
I briefly browsed through the relevant parts of the Maintenance and Service Guide http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03054480 My first take on how to do this would be: . Using the machine as-is, update BIOS to latest level . Create the Linux Mint install USB flash drive . Remove the disk from the...

Re: How Do I - Sync FireFox & Thunderbird
I would be wary of sharing the profile data from another disk. Big risk of running into conflicts. For Firefox, why not setup a Firefox account and do the syncing that way? You can select what you want sync: bookmarks, passwords, etc., even open tabs. For email (Thunderbird), use IMAP and sync via t...

Re: How to delete an account from Thunderbird?
Select the account in the list, right click on it, select Settings.
At the bottom, under the list of accounts and folders, you have Account Actions.
Select that and then select Remove Account.

Re: WiFi down after kernel upgrade. Mint 19.3
I'm using the rtw88 driver package from lwfinger, and it works very well for my adapter (RTL8822BE).
I gave it the "dkms treatment", so it gets automatically included when the kernel changes.

Re: Kernel 5.8.0 appeared today
Using GParted, I ran into this bug: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gparted/-/issues/111
I have now reverted to kernel 5.4 and everything is ok.
Bleeding edge might hurt, and this time it did.
