Re: Why Linux Mint?

Why Mint over other Distros? It's a good starting point for beginners like me. Mint's out-of-the-box experience makes it comfy to play around and break your system - that's right, if it breaks it generally means you FORCED it to. Why Cinnamon? Flagship Desktop Environment - You can play around with...

[ANSWERED] Questions about Building Apps and Games from Source

So, I'm considering that I should have fun building apps from source instead of using Software Manager and/or getting the .deb files. My first attempt was the newest version of FLARE . So far, so good. The thing is, I'm too new with this kind of thing, but I want a build-from-source practice once no...

Re: Excited for 19.x

Everyone's excited for every new Mint release, especially when the scheduled date is right around the corner (regardless whether it will be released on that said date or not). That's just how we are. But because it's Ubuntu-based there will always be these kinds of post-release comments: "I tried it...

Though we generally agree with the Title "Linux is Superior to Mac is Superior to Windows",
the OP is more of a journey of switching OSes: "Linux from Mac from Windows".

Whatever the reason, Mint losing the #1 spot has nowhere the same reason Ubuntu has.

Mint can do that for as long as I can remember. I've been using it for those low-volume Youtube videos.

Lubuntu or Zorin... both will eventually lead me to Ubuntu MATE because it's close to that minty green color (happens to be my favorite color... yes even before I knew Linux Mint).

Re: 32 bit distros to continue

As a 32-bit user, I really want to move on... even if I can't. But distros that still support 32-bit aren't really helping. That maybe counter-intuitive, but that's just it. If we were talking about Linux back then (the legacy hardware savior), then that's a different story. I can have my Mint 18.x ...

Re: GNOME 3.28 Removes Option to Put Icons on the Desktop

Now, I understand that they're stripping it down for convinience's sake (because some distro devs can opt to put features back in anyway), but this is just getting silly.

Will Mint 19 Finally Drop Flash Support?

Browsers are dropping it, even to the point of blocking it. So I got curious.
Also, how many people here still need flash... even for rare occassions?

Re: Ubuntu flavors to drop 32-bit (i386) support

I wonder if I use these arguments:
"Microsoft ended support for Windows XP because they lacked the financial resources... or maybe the staff to do so."
"Microsoft will end support for Windows 8.1 and other previous iterations for windows because they lack the staff and/or financial resources."

Re: Ubuntu flavors to drop 32-bit (i386) support

1. Canonical says that they're dropping 32-bit support because they lack the staff, not financial resources. This "Having support for 32-bit means having more money" is a non-sequitur. 2. 32-bit Ubuntu can still be supported IF there are people willing enough to do so. 3. As xenopeek says, Linux dev...

Windows only for work
If I didn't have any customers who are so tied down with Microsoft products, I would've been free along with the stranglehold.

I'm sick of all this whining! Oh, wait. I just did.

I guess people got tired of bullying Ubuntu that they're looking for somebody else to pick on. Given enough time, they'll get tired of it.

Re: GNOME 3.28 Removes Option to Put Icons on the Desktop

It was my gripe that the Gnome devs have been stripping down on features. You gotta hand it to them, though. My Mint Setup eerily looks like Gnome: 1. I stripped down Nemo's UI and it looks like Nautilus 2. I don't like Desktop Icons, so I turn it off But here's the main difference: It was MY CHOICE...

Re: An Example Of Why Linux Has Not Won and Never Will Win The Desktop

Here's something that I think is happening. Windows is winning the Desktop War simply because it needs to survive. Linux Distros doesn't need to win that war just to survive. Here's a quote on this Filehippo article : ...it doesn’t look there will be any further surge for Windows 10 anytime soon, wi...
