RETURN OF THE FORUMS

Thanks Mint for sorting everything out(still need to reconfigure the forums though)! I donated $14 to mint before the forums came back in part because of this. Unfortunately this caused a lot of FUD about Mint. I'm not switching, but many are or have recently for a simple website breach that lasted ...

Re: What Linux OS IS SAFE for OLD Dell Inspiron 1100 {2003}

Lubuntu is great for old computers. It is similar to Mint(also Ubuntu-based) and should run on low-end computers.
Also try:
-AntiX
-Linux Mint Xfce
-Manjaro Fluxbox or LXDE

Zukitwo Reloaded

Hey guys, do you remember the old Zukitwo theme that was on OpenDesktop and Cinnamon Spices? It's discontinued now, for some reason, despite great reception. I managed to compile together a few extensions of it (that aren't dead) to create a complete desktop theme. Cinnamon: http://cinnamon-spices.l...

Re: unable to install on windows 7x64

What exactly happened that didn't work? If your computer is bricked, you installed it wrong. If your computer is just going to Windows 7 after installing, there is a somewhat long multi-step process that I can walk you through to get it working. If your computer is bypassing the USB, there is anothe...

Re: update manager - advice (not a question)

There are actually good reasons some updates are invisible, and that is god and by design. Most daily computer users would rather have their PC's data at risk than have it break or deal with any kind of instability. If that isn't your preference, you can enable level 4 and 5 updates in the Preferenc...

It's not hacked. Take it in to a computer repair shop.
Also, you probably made the grave mistake of installing OVER Windows. Please follow this tutorial when installing it next time: http://www.howtogeek.com/99060/how-to-d ... e-same-pc/

Re: why I hate Window (2016 edition)

I just hate monopolies like Microsoft and Google. Neither of them are really monopolies(Microsoft competes with Linux, BSD, and to an extent Mac, and Google competes with Bing, Yahoo, Startpage, and DuckDuckGo), but they have big enough marketshare that they can do whatever they want to effect the w...

Re: Changing mouse themes- Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa- Mate

1. Mouse themes go in ~/.icons(/home/username/.icons). If you can't see it in Files, use ctrl-H.
2. To enable them, go to Themes, and it should now be an option in the "Cursors" section.

This is not a backdoor, it is a long-standing bug. It is totally impractical to exploit, taking hours on high-end hardware.

Re: Wanted: Linux success stories

I decided to use Linux out of curiosity at first, to see what it was like on the desktop. I researched it and found that it had numerous benefits that affected me. Most of what I heard before installing Linux was true. It's easy to use properly, and has a much more useful app repository than what I ...

The NSA does not own Linux, it just owns a few distros.
The NSA is known to use vulnerabilities in software, including zero-days. Maybe that's what they are talking about?

Re: Installing Level 4 & 5

Level 4 and 5 upgrades can't break security to my knowledge, but can cause a plethora of stability problems. For example, lack of a user interface, lack of sound, inability to type, and bricking could all result from these updates. They are disabled because the average user would rather be able to h...

Re: Linux making things easier

Linux got package management right so it's a reliable way to install, remove, and update software hassle-free. Apple's was too restrictive and Microsoft's was too impractical. Google did well, but still a bit restrictive as without rooting third party software websites could not be used.
