Re: Thank you for your help

As a complete newbie to Linux Mint, I think we should start a "Thank You" thread to show appreciation for those who have taken the time to assist us. :) Thank you gm10, Moem, ShyGuy, jglen490 for answering my newbie questions! God Bless and keep you and yours! A thread already exists... https://for...

.... In fact, I agree with others who have said there should never have been allowed to be software patents in the first place. It'd be like patenting linguistics.

Re: why don't questions get any help?

Have you considered dual booting Windows & Linux?

That's what I did while I was debating whether or not to make the 'leap'.

Re: Mint Alternatives

I agree with both the previous replies ... I would try the other Mint desktops first, but if you're set on leaving Mint, Peppermint 9 is good alternative. I use it on two old Pentium 4 machines that don't run well on Mint.

Re: Switching From Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa To Windows 8...

You'll need a windows box to use the tool I linked to make the install USB Drive/DVD Just curious because I've never done this for Windows. Does one have to use the microsoft tool to make a bootable Windows install USB/DVD from an iso file? If you're in Mint, wouldn't the USB Image Writer work just...

Re: Switching From Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa To Windows 8...

I tried doing this and I downloaded Windows and the other program, but I simply cannot get the USB-DVD-Tool to work, or even start up.
Any solutions?..
Are you trying this in Linux or Windows? Pretty sure it only works in Windows

Re: Portreve, love your avatar

Although I am quite old enough to have grown up with Baker or even Pertwee as my first Doctor, I just didn't watch the show back then (mid 70s in Canada.) I began in 2005 with New Who and was immediately addicted! Late last year, at the urging of my, super Who fan nephew, I began watching the 'Class...

I've always thought your avatar was quite unique but had no idea where it came from. Then last week I watched the 'Classic Who' episode Castrovalva for the first time and there you were!

Re: Do you use LibreOffice?

I use LO every week, mostly Calc.
Have never used MS Office, I began with Lotus123 on DOS and later assorted versions of Quattro Pro (Win3.1 through XP). Around 2006/07 I moved to Open Office and migrated into LibreOffice from there.

Re: Mint saved the day

I have a similar story from about a month ago. My niece's old desktop XP machine had quit months ago, It would power on but that's it. She bought a new laptop and went on with life. Last month she asked if I might be able to recover any files off her old hard drive. I took her hard drive out and put...

Re: Need to get this off my chest..

... I think the demise of Windows XP was the watershed. This is what brought me to Linux and eventually Mint. Even when I later bought a new computer with Win 8.1 (force fed Win 10) I stayed with Linux in a dual boot. I did that for a couple of weeks but it was too late for MS, once I had been expo...
