[SOLVED] Canon Printers - MX922 and TS9120

SOLVED - see bottom of post: ---------------------------------- I have two printers - a Pixma MX 922, and a TS9120. I should say at the outset that I can find basic Linux drivers for both these printers, and that I have both printers working on main desktop, but I want to see how the generic drivers...

[SOLVED] Add PPA - get gpg: keyserver receive failed

I have a router ( Arris ) with four ethernet ports that my provider gave me. From there, I have a wireless mesh network ( Netgear Orbi ) and into that I have ethernet cables for my and my wife's computer. I just run a cable from the Arris into the Orbi WLAN port and it works perfectly. I usually do ...

Re: Manually edit "Open With" options?

SOLVED. This is what I did: 1. Right click menu button on the panel. Choose "Configure ...". 2. Choose Menu->Menu->Open menu editor. 3. In the Applications panel on the right, select folder "Other" (to start out with). 4. Manually delete entries that are not wanted. I have not rebooted, but I assume...

I know all about opening files.

What I want to do is clean up that list that is displayed in the original post.

Re: 19.2 - mono problems [SOLVED (I think)]

Actually, I was able to *fix* the problem (sort of) by following the instructions on this page , i.e., sudo apt remove mono-complete mono-devel sudo apt autoremove sudo apt remove mono-gac mono-runtime-common sudo apt autoremove where repeatedly invoking remove/autoremove eventually clears the junk ...

19.2 - mono problems [SOLVED (I think]

I have a virtual machine that I that I am testing updating from 19.1 to 19.2. I apparently have it on 19.2 now, at least according to the boot screen. But now, any time I try to update anything I get a flood of errors that point to something amiss with mono. To summarize, I see these hundreds of the...

Re: A couple questions about the Canonical 32bit thing.

I don't know if I'll catch any grief for saying this, but maybe they should start looking to make a double transition: move to LMDE as the primary format, and move to Qt for building Cinnamon. Don't know about the Qt idea, but I have just now started putting together an LMDE virtual machine to plka...

Re: A couple questions about the Canonical 32bit thing.

Thanks for the good info. Just for my own understanding, what is the issue with snaps and appimages? Are they basically the same thing, where the main app is totally self contained and does not rely on any external shared components? What exactly is so toxic about them that so many people absolutely...

Re: Logitech F310 Gamepad: does it work with LM?

Mine seems to work fine, though I did not spend a lot of time using it. I bought one to replace a busted XBone controller but did not like how it felt in my hands, so I went back and bought another XB.

A couple questions about the Canonical 32bit thing.

I know there are a lot of things still to shake out here, but it seems like there are two schools of thought: If you don't use Steam or Wine, you are saying this is long overdue and totally support the decision, and If you do use Steam or Wine, you are basically going to be up the well-known creek i...

Re: How to make a small change to a theme?

Sorry, I meant Cinnamox-Kashmir-Blue all around. I had been swapping themes around and got muddled.
Thanks, I will try your suggestion.

UPDATE - Your suggestion worked perfectly with the Kashmir-Blue theme. Lots of possibilities open up now.

[SOLVED] How to make a small change to a theme?

How can I make a small tweak to a desktop theme? I searched the forums and saw that this question has been asked many times but have not seen a solution that works for me (perhaps I searched for the wrong keywords?) Anyway, I really like the Cinnamox-Kashmir-Blue theme, but would like to make the ti...

Re: Installed, yes. Where? I don't know.

My OS is Linux Mint 19.1 cinnamon. I learned of backup software, Clonezilla, that works for Linux. In my files, I found an installation GUI. I installed it. When complete, there was a remove button but no launch button. I searched for Clonezilla but could not find it. Where was it installed? Thanks...

Panel hover/preview keeps failing

Whenever I start Cinnamon and do some work and have bunches of, say, terminal windows up, when I mouseover/hover on the panel, I see a preview of each of them and can choose the one I want. Very nice. But eventually, something always breaks somewhere and I end up only being able to see the icon on t...

Re: Access Mint19 from Android via SSH

have a look at the android app "ES File explorer", it may be of help to you. Roger Thanks, I do have that app and use it for file access/transfers. But I think my example with "ls" was not really the best. Let's say that, instead of that, I want to remotely log onto my Linux system and start the x1...

[SOLVED] Access Mint19 from Android via SSH

ELI5, please. How do I do this? What do I need to install in Mint, and what is a recommended SSH client for android?
For example, how would I use my android phone and SSH to (a) change to my ~/Downloads directory, and (b) do an 'ls -al' on the contents? That would get me started.

Best way to automatically restart a process?

I want to run x11vnc and make sure it will restart if it fails. Right now, I have it as menu startup process as x11vnc -forever -nevershared -rfbport xxxxxxx -passwdfile /home/<me>/.vnc/passwd and that works but it crashed on me when I was remoting in and thus I lost access. I was thinking about put...
