But , it doesn't work as I expected.... icons are missing , the popup browser window gets glued to the main window...
Something missing here, but I also don't want to install all the kde to have okular.

The apt install kdelibs-bin kdelibs5-data kdelibs5-plugins , solved the missing plugins.

Probably keep mate :)
If you use your machine to work, kde5 is now very unstable. Try it first.
There is no better system now with kde5.
Kde4 had a lot of configs, and dolphin a lot of actions. No such things in kde5 for now.
This is my opinion. Some people say it's quite stable.

Well, I've run from kde5 in opensuse, because it was crash after crash. Not even in windows I had so much crashes. There are good karma users, that report that they run kde5 with no issues, no crashes. Not my case. Just discover cinnamon. Nemo has the split functionality, and a terminal, so quiet go...
