Re: Trying to shut down but...

Well, it's been several days since I had this issue but I simply forced a shut down when I was unable to get any suggestions as to what I should have done. I was running two different browsers simultaneously, Firefox and Chromium, when this happened. When I run into the same problem I will right cli...

Re: Trying to shut down but...

Really? NOBODY has any idea?

If this is not in the correct forum, Mr. Moderator, please pardon my ignorance and I'd be obliged if you would see that it is moved to the proper one. Thank you

Trying to shut down but...

I'm unable to click on any of the action buttons for a response. Not sure what's going on.

All browser windows are closed except this on....

So then, does that command (exactly as printed) take away ALL fonts OTHER than English? That's ALL I'm interested in having on board.
If not all of them, it will remove the bulk of them.

Thank you.

Re: What did I do???

Weird!

That was on FireFox Mozilla browser that the screenshot is taken. I opened up another FF browser in another workspace and all is fine. Not sure what happened but it's apparently not 'fatal'!

[SOLVED] What did I do???

So I'm here lurking around on the forum trying to educate myself on this OS when I come across a thread about how to remove unnecessary fonts that I have no use for. I went into Synaptic Package Manager and searched on 'fonts'. I checked to remove any language that I know that I would never use and ...

[SOLVED] How to return small panel icons of open windows

Somehow I have removed the small icons, like Firefox or Terminal or LibreOffice or any other program that is open, so that they are not present along the bottom of my screen in the panel. Could someone tell me how I should go about getting them to return? Thank you for your help. EDIT: I am running ...

Re: Trying to sort my drives!

@T158C Robert I am very interested in acquiring 'back up' skills - which I sorely lacked until my latest episode of crashing the system. Now, that is not to say I've got it all figured out by any stretch of the imagination! I actually had a thread going a few weeks ago regarding that as well. What I...

Re: [Solved] Cannot increase /boot size or remove older versions of kernel

Never knew to use autoremove and installed updates whenever the package manager prompted me. True noob :( Man, don't feel bad, I'm right there with you! But as it states in the red text at the top of this forum, we ALL start out as n00bs! Thanks for this post, now I've learned another point in Linu...

Re: Trying to sort my drives!

Hi Dalexunil, In your earlier thread, you said you used default install. But you also chose to encrypt your hard-disk on installation. That is why you have this setup. The sda2/sda5 construction, LVM and corresponding /dev/mapper devices are a consequence of your choice to encrypt. It is Ubuntu/Min...

Re: Trying to sort my drives!

If you want to re-install, I can suggest my preferred way - install in Legacy mode to GPT partitioning. I wrote a tutorial for that. https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=223015 Of course, you have to have all your data backed up to a safe location... Thanks, I bookmarked for la...

Re: Trying to sort my drives!

This LVM stuff is not for a n00b, IMHO!

I created this when I was trying to "re-partition" my existing configuration but must admit that I did NOT have a good grasp on what I was doing. I will consider your advice and perhaps do a new install - maybe a different DE!

Re: Trying to sort my drives!

There is no major reason to re-partition, unless you just want to have a system without lvm. Right now you have the "standard" lvm installation, as far as I can tell, and there is no problem. What is the result of lsblk -f ~ $ lsblk -f NAME FSTYPE LABEL UUID MOUNTPOINT sda ├─sda1 ext2 c0ac7635-ba39...

Re: Trying to sort my drives!

Thank you both for your help. So, is it not worth the time or simply not expedient to do re-partitioning with what I have? Trust me, I'm just asking because I do not know the answer!

EDIT: No custom kernel, stock with the distro (18.2).

Trying to sort my drives!

Some of you may recall my thread a few weeks ago on "Re-partitioning my existing computer" (or not) located https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=250596 So I'm back into this task and after running the fdisk -l command I must say that I am totally mesmerized by the length of the output! ...

Laptop Camera

My HP Pavilion DM4 laptop has a couple features it came with but no longer function since leaving Windoze for the far superior OS, LinuxMint. These features are the front facing camera and the fingerprint pad. Is there any chance these can be made to function without too much fiddling with it? They ...
