Re: installing Mint on freedos laptop

Thanks everyone. Sealegs, when I went to the local computer repairer, he said the same. Thank you. I had the same issue when I tried to install Windows on this laptop. I have returned it and getting one with windows 10 for my Aunt. paid 50 euros extra. Hoser Rob, thanks very much for letting me know...

Re: installing Mint on freedos laptop

Cosmo, my sincere apologizes if I sounded rude. First time I entered this forum requesting help for my HP laptop. I could not install Mint along with windows. It was a minor error which I learned from another user here who explained what went wrong in one simple message. That user never asked me for...

Re: installing Mint on freedos laptop

Reorx, we had this discussion before too. I don't understand what difference would it make if I show you the image of a blank 500 gb hardrive. My question is not regarding the HD, we had this discussion some time back when I was formatting my HP laptop and you instead of offering me a solution, want...

I am trying to install mint cinnamon 17.3- 64 bit on a brand new laptop that came with freedos. It is Asus with intel i3 processor. For some reason it is taking way too long. First time while trying to install, after 4 hours, I stopped the process and then made another bootable usb disk using startu...

Re: Dual booting OS and virus

Thanks Goguy. Just an update. Mint is still freezing though. I just had to turn off the power button and restart to type this message. Windows 7 is running smooth now. I will do as you suggested or would it be better if I reinstall Mint. Now I am not sure whether Mint is actually giving me some sign...

Dual booting OS and virus

Hello all, I run Mint Rosa on my laptop along with windows 7. Just two days ago windows started acting weird by repeatedly showing the message " display driver stopped responding and has recovered" then the monitor turned black. Updated driver but that did not help. While using mint on the same lapt...

Re: Which Mint version is ideal for an older machine?

"A 32bit machine cannot run 64bit system" Supertuxkart, does it mean that I have a 64bit machine? then why this kernel requires an X86-64 CPU error message while installing Mint? By the way, while installing Mint on my HP laptop ( 64bit) last week showed memory error and when I did a check on bios, ...

Re: Which Mint version is ideal for an older machine?

On a lighter note, I am quite surprised that a 32 bit machine let me run 64bit windows OS for so many years without any problems! I don't use it so often but it never gave any problem. Actually with my other systems I have always faced hardware /software issues.

Re: Which Mint version is ideal for an older machine?

hello there, I am getting an error " this kernel requires an X86-64 CPU, but only detected an i686 CPU. unable to boot"
Does it mean I should opt for 32 bit Mint? I have windows XP 64 already running on this machine and will be installing mint along with XP.
Thanks very much

I am thinking of installing mint on it and keep windows XP, of-course. Could someone tell me which mint version w...

Re: Installing mint in place of ubuntu and keeping windows 7

It was the harddrive. Had to replace it. Intalled windows 7 and right now I am installing the missing drivers. .Replacing the hardrive gave me an opportunity to do a proper cleaning inside. It was quite dusty. Looking forward to using Mint. Ofcorse, I have to be realistic, I know I may not be able t...

Re: Installing mint in place of ubuntu and keeping windows 7

The only thing i see after inserting the bootable usb mint is a memory error message and then the mint logo at the center of the screen. Then it freezes. This is why i think it could be some hardware failure. As far as partitioning is concerned, there are several methods available. I have recommende...

I tried to install mint but it showed memory error. I did memory test on BIOS and it passed the test. I saw a message on windows 7 froum and the guy h...
