Re: Desktop goes black

Q2) If Linux doesn't use the ".exe , txt, doc, jpg" nomenclature in it's file names, how does it differentiate one type of file from another? See http://lauraliparulo.altervista.org/most-common-linux-file-extensions/ And you can always invent your own extensions and set it to to start a specific ap...

Re: Desktop goes black

I am not familiar with xfce but I found a thread in a linuxlite xfce forum about a simular problem. If you have a Session and Startup screen somewhere, this may be the solution: https://www.linuxliteos.com/forums/othe ... /#msg10956

Re: Weird Taskbar Behaviour

It happens here too when I click the menu button twice (mint mate 18.1). All but one task (the active one) in the taskbar turn to bold and seem unresponsive when clicked (they even flash in my theme). After I click the button of the active screen the other task buttons will respond again although th...

Re: Sound Problem 18.3

I am now getting an update for pulseaudio that reverts the previous change :) * Revert Cherrypick fixes for checking profile availabilities - some regression exists in the 1:8.0-0ubuntu3.9, now reverting the change of 3.9, then the content of 1:8.0-0ubuntu3.10 is same as 1:8.0-0ubuntu3.8 (LP: #17677...

Re: Sound Problem 18.3

I had the same problem on mint 18.2 mate 64b since the last updates. As I suspected the pulseaudio update (1.8.0-ubuntu3.9) I tried to force installation of the previous version through the package manager, but that led to a carload of broken packages. So I installed mint 18.1 mate 64b (was already ...

Re: After todays update-->inictl: Unable to connect to Upstart

As only 2 posters have bothered to mention their Linux Mint version so far, 18.3, may we assume that only Linux Mint 18.x is affected? Mine was 18.1 mate. I have the same virtualbox update waiting for my 18.3 pc's but I blocked it as soon I had problems with the other pc. I also have one running 17...

Re: Menu places and remote file retrieval

Are you sure you have tried 18.1 in your virtual box? In fact Vbox is 18.3 I mean, have you tried to run mint 18.1 in your virtual box? (Please answer yes or no) How do you mount smb://nas/public/myfile.ods? My mistake it wasn’t xenopeek , but altair, see this post. https://forums.linuxmint.com/vie...

Re: Kernel 4.13.0-26 killed my CIFS mount

This is because the new kernel uses SMB 3.0 as default. This used to be SMB 1.0. Your server is obviously able to speak SMB 1.0, but no SMB 3.0. This can be corrected by upgrading your server to SMB 3.0 or by forcing SMB 1.0 or (2.0 may also work) in your cifs mount statement in fstab, add option ve...

Re: unable to sudo mount -a

You have control of that on the client with dir_mode, file_mode, and if necessary nounix options in your cifs statement. I tried nounix, same problem. I think that I have to solve this on the synology side. However your suggestion to force the client into SMB 1.0 ( https://forums.linuxmint.com/view...

Re: unable to sudo mount -a

You have control of that on the client with dir_mode, file_mode, and if necessary nounix options in your cifs statement. dir_mode and file_mode only seem to have effect on what is displayed on the client side. On the server side 666 or 777 is set nevertheless :( I was already pondering about the no...

Re: unable to sudo mount -a

You will get that error message if the SMB1 dialect has been disabled on the samba server running on the NAS. It is the kernel update on the client that breaks the SMB1 functionality. I have this same problem on my mint 18.3 mate computer since I updated the kernel to 4.13.0.26. My nas (also a syno...

Re: Theme colour tab disappeared in 18.3

gtk.gresource is pre-compiled images. You can google “gresource” for details. I haven’t looked at the API but it appears similar to a Windows image-list, probably indexed to load faster as an array. You can list its content with command: gresource list ~/.themes/c-6/gtk-3.0/gtk.gresource and extrac...

I only had a quick look and was fooled by the binary icon engrampa showed me for scss files. The gtk-3.0 folder however contains a binary called gtk.gresource which may well be the compiled version of the same named xml, but I do not know how to check that.
