Re: Does the daily cron job for TRIM make a separate log file?

Why use TRIM once a day ? I changed from weekly to monthly. I don´t write a lot every week and my SSD is just half full. LM18.3 You can see that write data increased a lot on the SSD after TRIM. My 128 GB SSD is half full ,and TRIM increase written data by ca 50GB. Try this in command (tells your to...

Re: How to check that SSD TRIM is running? (Mint 18.3)

One way to check is like I do. I activate TRIM once a month (cron monthly) Have a 120 GB SSD ,half full. I can see how write kbytes increases with this command (down below), once a day. For me about 3 GB /day. But when the TRIM activates it increases ca 50 GB. It happens ca the 17th of the month. De...

Minor bug ,or a feature ? LM18.2 Cinn. Kernel 4.8.0-58

Double-click "Computer"
If you have the sidebar active (View-Sidebar-Show Sidebar)
In the side panel right click "File System".
If you then change your mind and instead make the right part of
the window active and right click "File System" to the right,
the whole window disappears.

Re: Xserver and mdm problem ? LM18.2 Cinnamon

Thanks - we fix one part. I found out, from info on the net, that I can change "ro" (read only ?) in the recovery mode to "rw" (=read/write). Perhaps it was that change which made me able to make the changes so I gets back the regular desktop. But not the regular way, but in Grub using upstart under...

Re: Xserver and mdm problem ? LM18.2 Cinnamon

Thanks Termy This was a lot for a newbie like me. And a lot I don´t understand. The dd command was dd if=/dev/sda1 of=/dev/sdb1 bs=64K conv=noerror, sync and I think I tested with only sda and sdb also. (But the new HDD didn´t boot up . Don´t know why) I tested your advice: less /var/log/apt/history....
