Re: Compiz e Mate

Re: Lightweight distros for old computers

i suggest to install a lightweight browser, Dillo open very quickly. Thanks for reminding me about Dillo! I had quite forgotten about that nice little web browser, after playing with it almost 10 years ago. Good to see that it still exists. :) For the sake of security I advise to run it with Fireja...

Re: Lightweight distros for old computers

Well as i promised after some tests, i'm here. The migration from Mint Mate 13 to Mint Mate 17.3 has been successfull on the old desktop PIV 2.0 Ghz as i knew, ( after recovering a "new" video card from the junk ), except for : You must have at least 1,5-2 GB RAM, if you want to be little ...

Re: Lightweight distros for old computers

If you have an older computer that can only run 32-bit software and it doesn't officially support PAE —like a computer with an Intel Pentium M processor—the chance is good you can use Linux Mint 17.x and 18.x anyway. Instructions for this from the release notes: "To boot Linux Mint on CPU whic...

Re: Lightweight distros for old computers

If you find that LM 17.3 or newer doesn't work well for you, LM 17.2 may be the good choice. It's supported the same as LM17.3 and comes without all the transitional systemd and hardware issues you may experience with 17.3 and beyond. I'm not kicking anything new. I am just saying some people with ...

Re: Linux Mint 13 reaches end of life in April

I have a very old Athlon 64x2 (2GB ram) with LM13 Xfce, and I would prefer not to upgrade. LM13 performance in that machine is excellent. Some key programs can be updated anyway, like Firefox and LibreOffice. I can't see a really impelling or mandatory necessity to "upgrade" the system. U...

Re: Lightweight distros for old computers

Mint Mate 13 is so excellent on older hardware and work perfectly on this 2001-2002 machine, i would like the developer will keep it updated. :D Linux Mint 13 leverages the Ubuntu 12.04 LTS codebase. Canonical supports its LTS releases for five years. Ubuntu 12.04 LTS was released five years ago th...

Re: Lightweight distros for old computers

It will be unsafe to continue to use Ubuntu 12.04 / Linux Mint 13 for anything on the Internet, and irresponsible to suggest to anybody else that it is "fine". Newly discovered security bugs can and do also affect older software versions and as such, with Ubuntu 12.04 / Linux Mint 13 not ...

Re: Transfer Mint 18.1 from usb to hdd

If you want the exact copy, just install systemback from the repo. After you partitioned your HD as you like, choose the system copy function. You must mark the "copy user data files " option and you have to indicate where to put the system as usual for manual installation. If you have UEF...

Re: refreshing battery; stuck at 98%

If the real charge is 97%, that's it. After a while the battery goes down and it not charge at 100% anymore, usually the icon shows charged at 100% even if the hidden value is 70%. The statistics tells you, how was the Kwh when brand new from factory and how it is now. If it can't reach the apparent...

Dopo installi il repo : sudo add-apt-repository ppa:yannubuntu/boot-repair && sudo apt-get up...
