Re: After update Firefox doesn't remember settings

Thank you, It wasn't obvious which "help" i should look in at first. Rebuilding firefox has worked, had to redo the settings but they've stayed in place since.

Re: After update Firefox doesn't remember settings

Thanks for the fast reply, I'm not sure how to follow that instruction however.

Doesn't seem to be a terminal command, it's not in the "help" option in the start menu or update manager?

[SOLVED]] After update Firefox doesn't remember settings

Hi, this morning I started using firefox and noticed that all of my settings had reverted to default. It is possible the update I ran this morning (GMT+10 time) could have caused this, but I know it wasn't a firefox update. (Can't remember exact utility) I have been using linux mint + firefox withou...

Made changes to /etc/cups/cupsd.conf need a clean/new file

Hi, I was trying to make some changes to CUPS and its webpage wouldn't accept my root credentials. Following the advice from https://www.linuxquestions.org/questions/linux-software-2/cups-username-and-password-156986/ I edited /etc/cups/cupsd.conf . I've since found that the printing service does/ca...

Re: Linux Mint Cinnamon 18.3: Attached external monitor causes laptop to blackscreen on boot

@Y2k38
What is the hot key you're using for that?
I've just perused the keyboard shortcuts without seeing that. I'd like to try this to see if I can use it to workaround my problem.

Re: Linux Mint Cinnamon 18.3: Attached external monitor causes laptop to blackscreen on boot

That guide is for how to add a monitor. The problem I'm having isn't using my monitor, it's just that when I have it plugged in at boot, both screens remain black. Once I've logged in I can then plug the monitor in without trouble. It’s still extremely frustrating to reboot to a black screen and hav...

Linux Mint Cinnamon 18.3: Attached external monitor causes laptop to blackscreen on boot

Hi, When my external dell monitor is attached to my laptop during boot, the screen (both laptop and external) remains black (I've made sure the external is on). To avoid this I have to unplug my external monitor and reboot. I'm not sure if it's related but when I would plug in my external monitor af...

Re: Linux Mint softlocks during boot process

Thanks for the information on the resiub method, first time i'd heard of that. The file system checks didn't identify anything useful unfortunately. I'll be reinstalling soon, just need to recover files from my encrypted home partition first. Luckily I've had to do this before so we'll see how much ...

Re: Linux Mint softlocks during boot process

Hey, pressing Esc did indeed turn off the splash screen, but it just showed black, no messages showing the OS starting up. I could keep pressing esc to turn the splash back on/off but it wasn't useful. After the normal amount of time the splash/black screen dissapeared and showed the black screen+lo...

Linux Mint softlocks during boot process

Hi, I'm dual booting Linux Mint 17 and Windows 10. A problem occurred recently when I was compiling some programs. I think after a command in the typical "./configure, make, make install" process, the screen froze and I had to perform a hard reboot (power button in until it restarts). Now when I lau...

Wine changed desktop resolution and screen locks when changing it back [SOLVED]

Hi, I started up the visual novel Fate in WINE which automatically changed the resolution to 800x600 (native is 1366x768). The screen has now been stuck at this resolution for > 1 week after multiple reboots. When I try to change the resolution through the "display" GUI, I get screen wraparound glit...

Re: Unable to log in to user account after starting apache server

Double posting for an update. I never managed to log in to my account but the screen it was showing after a failed attempt I now recognise as terminal without a GUI. I've managed to recover my data using ecryptfs-recover-private from this terminal prompt after failing using a bootCD. For people with...

Re: Unable to log in to user account after starting apache server

Hi, Still experiencing the issues described in my last two posts. I've supplied the diagnostic information requested so far.

Responses so far have focused on getting past the login screen. Is there a way to decrypt the user profile data without logging into the actual user account?

Re: Unable to log in to user account after starting apache server

Cheers, I was confusing myself, I was copy pasting your commands which had sudo in them anyway without noticing. Looked up the man file and found the generated file, here's the pastebin link I made manually: http://pastebin.com/d55bg8JK I also worked out how to edit "ServerName localhost" into the f...

Re: Unable to log in to user account after starting apache server

Thanks for your suggestions, I started up with a Mint 18.0 LiveCD and installed bootinfo script as directed. Running it from terminal did not generate a URL after it finished. For Habitual: I'm really not sure how I can run that as I can't log into the system to access terminal. Running it from the ...

[Solved] Unable to log in to user account after starting apache server

Hi, the short story is I want to access files stored in a dual booting linux mint partition (EXT4) that I can't log into anymore.
