Re: Can't Reload/Update repository w/ Synaptic

Thanks. Tried everything there in that series of posts. Now I get this: 99% [11 Packages bzip2 0] [Waiting for headers] bzip2: Data integrity error when decompressing. Input file = (stdin), output file = (stdout) It is possible that the compressed file(s) have become corrupted. You can use the -tvv ...

Add Research Tool/ Mendeley to Software Portal

There's a wonderful new research tool/reference manager that works with open office and they support Ubuntu. One of the things that has keep me dual booting with Windows is the need for specialized reference software, such as Endnote. Well, my dreams have been answered. Can we get this working with ...

No headphone jack sense, internal microphone

No headphone jack sense, internal microphone – nightmare come true on my new laptop Well, it's a nightmare come true. My old laptop was on its last legs, so I decided to buy a new one just to go with Mint 7. I took the live CD into my favorite PC shop and tested it on an Acer Aspire 4930G. Everythin...

Re: Beginers Guide to Installing and Using Mint

Problem solved. My 4th partition was made using a Windows program and marked as primary. The solution was to delete that partition using the mint installer. That was then allocated it as free space. From there, just choose create new partition and choose 'logical'. Quite simple, really. Hope this he...

Re: Installing and Using Mint/Dual boot with Vista

Yes, Fred mentions the swap there -- thanks. Now I've got a new problem: partitioning with Vista. My new laptop came with Vista preinstalled. It's got two small ntfs partitions that probably shouldn't be deleted, plus one ntfs partition that I've resized with Vista on it. I now want to install Mint ...

Re: Swap Partition for Installing and Using Mint

I'd like to manually partition my drive for /, /home and /swap. Neither the Mint 5 or 7 guides mention the max for the swap. A very good follow to the Mint 5 guide recommends 2x the RAM and not to exceed 4GB. Today, most computers come with 3GB, so double that would exceed the 4 GB limit. Has this c...

Mint Mini

Well, there's a Mac Mini. Why not a Mint (7) Mini? Has anyone tried Mint on a Shuttle computer or something similar?

Thanks

Minty Laptops

I know that there’s a small list of laptops that work with Mint listed on the wiki, but a lot of what’s there is quite old and/or regional – and it doesn’t even include any netbooks. My current laptop is on its last legs, so I’d like to get a new one just to use with Mint 7. I’ve been eyeballing the...

Re: Linux Mint 7 RC1 Bug Thread

I had trouble installing it. Booted from the live CD and clicked the install icon on the desktop. Installation started and got to about 40% and then it just stopped. I was later able to install from the installer selection on the menu after it boots up. Wireless doesn't work with my Sony Vaio VGN-T2...

Re: Linux Mint 7 RC1 Bug Thread

Printer configuration detects HP Laserjet P1006. Pop-up window states that a plugin is required and if not installed that the printer will not work properly. Clicked on plugin install button. Supplied password as required, but then it neither downloaded nor installed the required plugin.

Add a 'Samples and Examples' folder to the live CD

I think it would be nice if we had a 'samples' folder with audio, video and various types of office files on the live CD. It makes it a bit easier to test the CD on other computers by already having everything in one place and ready to go. Call me lazy if you must, but some distros do this and I rea...

UFW Autostart

I'm happy that Mint now offers the option of using UFW and that it can be set to autostart. That said, I really hate that I have to enter a password each time for an autostart program. Can something be done about this? Thanks.
