still no sound.

well, theres the HDMI port, the line in and the line out.

interestingly, pavucontrol tells "unplugged" even though the speakers are plugged in.

however, volume control does show a signal (the green bar moving) when playing music.

In the end I decided to go back to 17.3 Cinnamon because Mate 18 didnt work well either, plus I like the Cinnamon look a lot more 8) now everything works very well, no noisy fans. to whom it may concern, just want to note that I reinstalled Mint and now it's working fine using the Xorg-drivers. couldn't fix the problem with the proprietary drivers, so for now I'm living with the now and then bleached-screen. hopefully some update may fix it..
