Cinnamon eating up RAM

I am using Linux MInt Cinnamon Edition. It used to eat up just 100-120 MB RAM but just now I noticed that its eating up more than 250 MB RAM. I also tried restarting the Laptop but it started with Cinnamon eating 250 MB RAM. I don't quite understand what triggered it and how to solve it. Cinnamon ve...

Can't Install LibreOffice due to Dependency Problem

I ran sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist upgrade and it basically removed my LibreOffice installation. Now when I try to install it again using sudo apt-get install libreoffice it gave me dependency problems. So I executed sudo apt-get purge libreoffice* then I tried to install but same proble...

Re: Erratic Behavior after restarting Cinnamon

You could try going to System Settings->General and tuning on "Enable support for indicators". This will require you to restart cinnamon again. Then system tray icons that have indicator support will use the cinnamon menus. Thanks a lot. I don't know what helped actually. I enabled this feature but...

Re: Erratic Behavior after restarting Cinnamon

Your opening menus for two different things in your screenshots. The first with the Cinnamon style menu is the sound applet. The second looks like you are clicking on the Steam system tray icon. Those system tray icons supply there own gtk based menu. That is why they don't look like the other menu...

Re: Mint 17 - Unable to change Icons

@ OP There is something awry with your display. Open a terminal and type: nemo -q then close the terminal and click on "Files" in your main menu to re-open nemo. Did you install the nvidia driver and then remove it? Thanks a ton. It worked for me. :) And what does that command do exactly. Restart N...

Re: Closing Lid Problem in Laptop

You'll find that @pjotr has a terrible habit of being right. The main edition looks and acts much like LMDE2. And if it's light weight you want, consider the xfce desktop. I'm sure the "bloatware" in Ubuntu has been removed in Mint, if it was there to begin with; the few times I tried Ubuntu I neve...

Changing Space Between Thumbnails

I am not sure if this has been answered before. I did a Google search and didn't found any good results so here I am. I noticed that spacing between icons or thumbnails in the File Explorer is too much. Can I reduce that space ??
If yes then how ??

Re: Closing Lid Problem in Laptop

Hello, I recently switched to Mint LMDE2 from Windows. I don't know the answer, because I'm unfamiliar with LMDE. But I do want to say this: for a Linux beginner, LMDE is not the right choice. LMDE is meant for advanced and experienced Linux users. Beginners better select the main edition. So I adv...

Re: Closing Lid Problem in Laptop

I have specified the computer to do nothing if I close the lid This is a potentially dangerous setting, as the laptop may easily overhead. I do this when I have to download something in night while I sleep. Also this is not a regular problem, I mean sometimes opening lid works just fine. But someti...
