Re: [solved] Cloning the entire pc

Also note that you can also do it with Macrium Reflect. Yeah it's a windows tool, BUT it does work as long as you boot with the media it creates. I just did this last week restoring a previous copy when I tried to upgrade from 18.3 to 19. The upgraded did not go well so I restored my Macrium image I...

Re: Used Macruim to restore my image of 18.3

Thanks for that. I'll try that again after I make an updated image. That reminds me of the old method with windows 95 or 98 using the tab using those keys to navigate. UPDATE 10/27/19: got my system upgraded to 19, then upgraded again to 19.2. The only 2 minor issues I encountered: 1. Firefox. I had...

[SOLVED] Used Macrium to restore my image of 18.3

I tried to update my mint version from 18.3 to 19.2 to see it it would work, but it did not go well. Everything was working fine until I got a screen about Microsoft fonts. At the bottom was a simple "ok" to continue, but licking on it did not work as I was doing the upgrade via the terminal. So I h...

Re: Cloning system drive - is it worth it?

Should you take system images to an external drive - YES! They are your last line of defence in the event of disaster. Your first line of defence is utilities like timeshift/backintime/luckybackup - these are file level backup utilities. Clonezilla is confusing for newbies and redo is abandonware. ...

linux mint 19.1 running in software rendering mode (VB vs VMWare)

I have a Lenovo T510 laptop. Yes it has the crappy Intel graphics, but on this same laptop, I have Mint 18.3 Cinnamon installed and working just fine. What that said... I wanted to see what Mint 19 would look like, so I swapped out the SSD drive and installed my Win 10 PRO SSD. I already had VMWare ...

I already have it on my desktop, but would rather have it in the panel like the old one. I guess I can live with it on the desktop for now until another solutions comes about.

Re: weather applet not working

Can you explain how you configured the desklet to work with weather.com? Right click on the weather desklet and choose Configure. Set the Data service to weather.com. You'll have to find your Location from https://weather.codes/ Thanks but I can't change the data service in Configure. It's grayed o...

Re: weather applet not working

There's a current discussion about it in this thread: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=90&t=285381&sid=32869d29bc965894f5d34b637d235d02 If that doesn't suit your needs, the weather desklet works for me with weather.com as the data service. Can you explain how you configured the desklet ...

Re: Issue with the weather app?

yah, it's the weather applet (not desklet) and the applet is sorely missed  because Yahoo has yanked the free weather api needed by the applet so it is broken applet until author figures something besides yahoo to feed it the data. OP, I installed Meteo , which is also a systray app, uses Open...

Re: Several newbie questions

I've been using Mint just under 2 years on a spare laptop to get use to the OS. I'm coming from Windows. I do have Wine installed, as I really missed the old WinAmp 2.90 version which has migrated on several windows versions during the years. With Wine installed and WinAmp, I have a WinAmp icon on t...

Re: What Are Important Details To Know When Using Timeshift?

I have a related question to Timeshift.

I have it saved to an external USB drive. My question is: what happens when you can't even boot Mint at all? I'm currently running Mint 18.3. Do I need Mint 18.3 USB boot drive, or will Mint 19.x work for performing the restore?

Re: 18.3 to 19 Question

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping to hear from a few that have actually performed the upgrade. I currently have 18.3 installed on a older Lenovo thinkpad T510. It has 6 gigs of memory, and a 128 GB SSD that has only 12 GB left. I've been using this laptop as a test so I can move to Mint in the ne...

Are you referring to the missing scroll arrows? If so, there is some discussion here and a fix. I haven't tried it yet.
