Re: Is Ubuntu (or Linux Mint) next?

.......wonders what operating system they are running at Hollywood Presbyterian Hospital...... Me thinks it rhymes with winblowz.... A combination of Microsoft Office, Microsoft Windows and human errors actually caused it. You got an e-mail with a Word document (docx or docm), hidden with some macr...

Sup to all

Switched 100% to Linux some weeks ago, yet might do some testings with VBox to have some kind of Windows device able to run in case of "emergencies." My "usage" history before Linux aka. I did something on those OSs more than once: - Console based Windows, dunno which one, maybe NT or some 3.X thing...

Re: Can't Turn On Wireless (Wi-Fi)

I have this one stupid question to rule out "that problem". Laptops usually have an extra button to turn on/off the Wifi-Signal. It can be either a single extra button or a button combination done with the FN-Key + one of the FX-Keys (F1-F12). Adding to that you have a small LED-lamp (usually orange...

Mint Rosa xfce4 problem with theme xfce-dusk

I like the theme xfce-dusk a lot, but there is one small problem. When I open the application manager and type something in the search field, the search field goes white. And since the font is also white, you simply cannot read anything there. And the problem appears only in the application manager ...

Re: Dropbox trayicon is missing in KDE

I had a similar problem with another application which didn't show in the tray icon. The solution was to go to the startup programs and then to deactivate an app called "application indicator" which is used for gnu. Reboot the pc aftewards. Might be a solution. If nothing changes, reactivate it.

Shellscripting is kind of interesting and not that difficult, also explains programming a bit.

Re: What do you think of Arch Linux

My brother is using Linux Arch. He has a thinkpad and after some time using other linux distributions he realized what programs he uses daily. He installed Arch and limited everything to those programs (mostly browsing forums via ff, livestreams via VLC plugin, reading writing different documents an...

Re: Problems running League of Legends with Playonlinux

Newer updates by Riot Games can make it impossible to run LoL on virtual machines. They can simply break everything and you must keep that in mind until someone finds a work around, if there is any. Yet overall you should also take care of your graphic-card-drivers, checking if they are up to date o...

Re: vlc will not run

In the settings in VLC you can set default optical device in Input/Codecs. Dev/cdrom or dev/sr0 should work. Or you can go to home/USERNAME/.config/autostart and put vlc as vlc.desktop in there to autostart when mint launches. Could also help

Re: Read the ads or pay cash or say goodbye

Noone forces you to read a newspaper or magazine. However, if you choose to do so, I don't see why it should be free, since a lot of time, effort and research has been invested into it. You can also live without a plumber and try to fix everything yourself. However, if you decide to hire one, do yo...

Re: Read the ads or pay cash or say goodbye

I will never see ads when I only add sites I visit to my router configuration. Ads are always hosted on external servers, so they won't display at all. Everything else would be simply blocked and no one can punish or blame me for doing something like that. Best "adblocker" ever ;) @Fragezeichen Tech...

I switched my desktop environment from xfce4 to cinnamon and shows everything correctly, as it should be. So I guess it has something to do with xfce4 :/ Welp, there it goes and the problem is solved..

Re: Network Icon not showing in task

If you right click on the panel and select add applets. Add the Network Manager if not already added. Also make sure that you have the System Tray applet. I hope that helps. I have Linux Mint 17.3 "Rosa" Cinnamon but I think this info works for 17.2. There is no Network Manager displayed in that li...

Re: Network Icon not showing in task

That was also one of the solutions I found on the internet. People said that du to unknown reasons it might be set to invisible but it was not, it even showed there as "working", yet the icon never did appear until I found a way around by opening it manually with sudo. But overall your post was very...
