Networking Won't Disable Using Stop/Start

Please correct me if I'm wrong or simply don't understand (I'm not overly technical) but I was under the impression disabling the network manager disabled the network. But, when I use the terminal to stop/start my networking service the networking is not disabled. sudo service network-manager stop I...

[SOLVED] Re: mint-artwork-common > dpkg error - attn: DEVS [SOLVED]

Hi, red03golf. Try switching the Ubuntu repo servers to plain vanilla archive.ubuntu.com instead. They gave me dpkg 1.17.5ubuntu5.8 almost a week ago or so. Karl @Karl - you're brilliant!! ;o) SOLUTION: https://s14.postimg.org/kh438j7td/Screenshot_from_2018-03-23_14_36_36.png Then, update the cache...

Re: mint-artwork-common > dpkg error - attn: DEVS

I see you're using a lower kernel number than I am. I'll drop to a 3.x kernel and see if I can get access to the dpkg...5.8 version, as it is right now, I can't get it.

Updates to come, later.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get clean

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get update
Thanks for the suggestion. I tried aptitude clean / update before posting and it didn't help.

It's probably just a dev's typo and will be fixed shortly ;o)

Thanks for the reply. This wasn't so much a help request as it was informing of an issue which could affect others. I, myself, don't fret much about bugs as they're usually corrected quickly. I'll make sure I supply inxi output with future posts. inxi -Sz output: System: Host: user-pc Kernel: 4.4.0-...

Re: Linux Mint 17.3 ver 2.8.8 backdoor

I think I am just afraid to connect back to the internet. Nobody is 100% safe online, that's life today. Take the red pill and dive in head-first. We learn by doing, not by spectating. The other problem I was hoping to fix is I can not backup my files now because it says: error input/output When I ...

Re: Time setting changed.

Is there an option in there for toggling on/off Network Time?
If so, disable it, then you should be able to change the time.

Re: creating a website shortcut to desktop

Either dragging the text or the icon should work to create a shortcut. But, if you're experiencing problems then drag the icon instead of the text as it should be foolproof. JerryF was correct in his description of the process, though. https://s27.postimg.org/70xve9jan/Screenshot_from_2017-03-27_15_...

Re: Password to access the desktop

I don't have 18 installed, but in 17.3 there's the Login Window applet in the System Settings for enabling/disabling the Automatic Login. Therefore, I assume that if Automatic Login is not enabled, it would require a password to login to the computer. https://s16.postimg.org/czv4268ip/Screenshot_fro...

You've missed something very basic, yet very important, in dealing with this situation - regardless of anyone having backdoor access to your system, if you disconnect the device from the network, they cannot do ANYTHING. Methods to disconnect: Computer: turn it off (although, this method makes it d...

Re: Reinstalling Cups?

I accidentally messed up my installation of CUPS while editing some config files. If the files are under your $HOME, removing/purging cups won't remove them. Try this to find them: find $HOME -iname "*cup*" If you find any, delete (or rename) them. Flemur - I believe your original solutio...
