Re: Windows 10 VM

100% SUCCESS! Bear in mind, all OSes SHARE the EFI partition(DOH!) Unplugged all drives, except Mint drive. Installed Mint, unplugged that drive, plugged in win drive and installed. Both drives now have an EFI partition. (grub is written to the EFI partition for UEFI installs) Followed jamies instru...

Re: Windows 10 VM

ok, let me explain what im thinking. i have 3 physical drives, 256Gb SSD, 250Gb hdd, and a 500Gb HDD. Rather than dual boot the classic way, I want to run win10(from a physical drive) in a VM on a host Mint drive. All of my previous attempts have me looking at a grub prompt, after using a vmdk file ...

Re: Windows 10 VM

well..... it gets weird, EVERYTHING has to be done in the right order :( BUT, there are a couple of things they leave off. Im gonna start back over 100%. Do the windows install, linux, then dual-boot(thru BIOS), then do a VM of win10 just to make sure, all traces of grub are gone. I know it is extre...

Re: Windows 10 VM

ok, let me clarify: i want to use an existing windows 10 installation(on its own physical disk), on A VM within linux mint. Moving grub(removing from windows disk), to the linux disk has not helped. Removed by assigning/unassigning drive letter to windows EFI volume, then completely re-installing Mi...

Re: Windows 10 VM

UPDATE: Did a clean install of Mint, installed virtualbox through the software manager, followed instructions in jamies blog, and all went very well. The only problem i have now, im looking at a grub prompt when booting windows in the VM. BTW, grub is loaded on the windows drive. I know im missing s...

[SOLVED] Windows 10 VM

Back on linux, and i love it. Only problem 1 game i play a LOT, will not run under PlayOnLinux, or wine(crashes with network error after attacking a few mobs). So, i want to try and run win10 in a VM, which uses my current win10 install, on a separate physical disk. https://www.jamieweb.net/blog/boo...

Re: Linux mint 18 shutdown or power off problem.

The problem with the Acer is a well known bug(google dw_dmac).
The packard hell is NOT 100% IBM compatible(well-known in the old school).

Re: [SOLVED] CPU Fan Speed, CPU is overheating

I have that cooler on my i5-2500k, but with a fan on the other side as well in a push-pull configuration.
It helps for overclocking, especially under a heavy load like prime95.

Contrary to the general consensus on Mint(if it works, dont fix it), let me reiterate:

Re: BUGS

@raleighman
Please try LM 17.3 before giving up on linux mint.
I do agree there are problems with LM 18 and the implementation of systemd.
However this is not indicative of linux mint.
LM 17.3 will be supported 'til 2019.
Surely we will have a 18.1 in the very near future

Re: Do we REALLY need MINT?

Or we could use archLinux and Cinnamon as the DE.
Or better yet, start with the linux kernel and build your own distro. :P

Re: Change directory name

The 1st command assumed you had gedit installed.

Code: Select all

sudo apt-get install gedit
but basically, open the file with ANY text editor with elevated privileges.
As far as the printer goes, cant help you, sorry.
