Re: Thinkpad keeps disconnecting from wifi, but the wifi icon still shows connected

After trying many things, what solved it for me was this: linux - How to turn off Wireless power management permanently - Unix & Linux Stack Exchange https://unix.stackexchange.com/a/315400/271267 Basically: wifi.powersave = 2 in file: /etc/NetworkManager/conf.d/default-wifi-powersave-on.conf And re...

Re: No onboard speaker sound, headphones work

Installing pavucontrol (PulseAudio Volume Control, in the Multimedia section of the Application Menu), and playing with the change between speakers and headphone, solved it for me.

Re: [solved] USB ports not working

A fast solution that works at least in my case (Linux Mint KDE, on a Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro laptop): With the laptop on, just press the power button for about 30 seconds , that is shutting down and still pressing for a while after this. I did it with the charger unplugged. After turning on the laptop, th...

Re: Can not connect to hotel WiFi

A workaround: Sometimes wifi login pages (at some hotels, etc.) don't work with Linux, but work with mobile phones, etc. Therefore, we can just connect our mobile phone to the wifi using the login page, and then connect this mobile phone to our Linux laptop with a USB cable, and go to something lik...

Re: Dropbox Applet Not Appearing

rbn, please try the already mentioned workaround for the current Dropbox icon bug. That workaround also restores the menu that appears when clicking the Dropbox tray icon:

Code: Select all

dropbox stop && dbus-launch dropbox start

Re: Dropbox trayicon is missing in KDE

A more recent and even better workaround, working for more Linux operating systems, and also without the file ownership recovery inconvenience of the sudo (root) one:

Code: Select all

dropbox stop && dbus-launch dropbox start

Re: Dropbox trayicon is missing in KDE

New: There is now a much better workaround than mine, suggested by kk78 to have the Dropbox tray icon as normal user, no root. It works at least for Xubuntu and Linux Mint:

Code: Select all

dropbox stop && DBUS_SESSION_BUS_ADDRESS="" dropbox start

Re: Dropbox trayicon is missing in KDE

I tried "kdesudo", and other variations (dropbox start -i), but only "sudo dropbox start" works for me, not sure why. Some articles said, add a delay of 10 in the startup section, but I do not know how to add a delay in the KDE startup section, do any of you? I read that it could be a "bug", softwa...

Re: Dropbox requires sudo

works for me as well for a temporary fix. Anyone have an idea how to permanently fix this? It looks like recent Dropbox bugs (not clickable tray icon, or in other cases no tray icon at all), so we need to wait until they get fixed by an update. I think it's good to use this permissions workaround f...

Re: Dropbox, applet/ indicator not appearing

I just posted on another thread ( Linux Mint Forums - Dropbox Applet Not Appearing ) a workaround to get the dropbox icon back on the system tray: dropbox stop sudo dropbox start It worked for some people even without the "sudo" for previous similar bugs, but with the current Dropbox versions (3.14....

A workaround: sudo dropbox start

I'm using Linux Mint KDE, with the package "dropbox" installed by the Software Manager. Very recently, maybe since an update yesterday or today, the Dropbox icon had disappeared from the system tray. A workaround that works is, from the command line (e.g. Konsole): dropbox (to see help) dropbox stop...
