Re: shutdown: gnome-keyring-daemon still running

I'm getting this almost all of the time when shutting down Linux Mint 18.3. Note I've got a NVIDIA card and I'm using the proprietary driver.

Often getting "Gnome keyring daemon is still running", purge kernels?

I am often getting the "Gnome keyring daemon is still running" message when I go to shutdown. I'm wondering if I should purge the old kernels. What's the best way to do that with Linux Mint 18?

I installed Ubuntustudio-audio, but now I have a more serious problem

I installed Ubuntustudio-audio package and Ubuntustudio-desktop, but I can't see any DAW like program on the Menu. Do I have to install something else? Or am I expecting the wrong thing? Also, I can't seem to uninstall these packages now. It says: The package system is broken If you are using third ...

Possibly a silly question but what do you mean by accessible via the tray :?:
I mean the collection of icons in the bottom right of the screen. If I remember correctly in Windows it's called the system tray.

I was looking for a clock that appears when you click on an icon in the tray.

How do I upgrade Valgrind to version 3.15?

I have Valgrind version 3.11 installed with the software manager. How can I upgrade this version to the latest version 3.15? I can install this in a new directory. But what I want to do is upgrade the version in "/usr/bin". Update I found these instructions, which work, but seem like a botch: https:...

Re: Installing from source and making it like it was from a package?

I understand, so I guess without the prefix argument it'll store the installed files in the usual place i.e. "/usr/bin" and "/usr/share" etc. I'll give this a try.

Thanks xenopeek and gm10.

Installing from source and making it like it was from a package?

Say if you follow the "configure, make, make install" process and install a piece of software in a directory (using "--prefix=/pathto/yourdir/"), then how can you make it like it was installed from a package i.e. probably put it or a shortcut in "/usr/bin"? Is it possible to signal to the package ma...

Re: Valgrind crashes in Qt Creator, related to the video card?

Thanks Rob. I read on the documentation that Valgrind is separate from Qt, so I installed the latest version of Valgrind from source and the problem went away.

Valgrind crashes in Qt Creator, related to the video card?

Hi, "Valgrind Memory Analyzer" crashes when running a blank "Qt Widgets Application" project in Qt Creator 4.10.1 with the "external error" message: 286,959 bytes in 1 blocks are possibly lost in loss record 78 of 78 in calloc in /usr/lib/valgrind/vgpreload_memcheck-amd64-linux.so 1: calloc in /usr/...

Re: Change log of the minor system / kernel updates?

Got it, thanks! Yeah I'm on 18.3. It has "change log" links under "Linux kernels" in the update manager.

Re: Change log of the minor system / kernel updates?

Sorry, my question was a bit vague. What I am really looking for is a textual description of what changed in the update. The update manager "history of updates" just lists out the package names.

Where can I see old notifications?

Sometimes these pop up and then quickly disappear before I get a chance to click on them. Or is there a way to increase the time that they are in the tray (bottom right)... like to a few hours, in case you're away from your computer? I just found the "remove notifications after their timeout is reac...

Copying / installing ".so" and ".pc" files

Hi, I built some library files ".so" from scratch. Also I have some associated include files ".hpp" and package config files ".pc". All these are currently in directories under "~/Documents". I was wondering is there a particular / special way to copy these to "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu" and "/usr/i...
