Re: What is changing my WiFi interface and Why????

The network renaming is something that we are going to have to deal with as Ubuntu has been using it since Ubuntu 15.10 Thank you. Now I know the reason. Mint 17.2 was based off Ubuntu 14.04 "trusty". The new changes in systemd renaming hadn't taken place yet. Installing Mint 18, based off Ubuntu 1...

Re: What is changing my WiFi interface and Why????

Update: So I attempted a different Network Manager "wicd" which royally messed my computer up (it removed cinnamon). However, when I got cinnamon reinstalled (unfortunately, along with network-manager), I booted with both network managers active. There is an issue with the default network-manager fo...

Re: [SOLVED] Network-manager/Wireless issue on Linux Mint 18

I tried this to resolve my issues... It stripped out Cinnamon completely!!! Be very very careful. I got THIS ISSUE by following the WICD instructions. When I rebooted my computer, it would boot to the login screen. I could enter my password and hit enter, the screen would go black and take me back t...

Re: What is changing my WiFi interface and Why????

Thank you for your response. I really appreciate it. I should add that this is a fresh install of Mint 18 after a reformat. I've disabled IPv6 in the settings on a found solution on Ubuntu boards, which I believe helped speed up connection to the router (authentication process seemed quicker). I've ...

What is changing my WiFi interface and Why????

Hello, I recently upgraded from Linux Mint 17.2 to Linux Mint 18. I'm tracking down my WiFi connectivity issues (which are in a separate post that no one's bothered to answer, yet plenty of views). My connection still remains intermittent when using Mint 18 (even with most up to date kernel). I'm co...

WiFi Interface Woes (Mint 18 "Sarah" Cinnamon 32-bit)

Hello, I have having intermittent issues with my WiFi interface on my Sony Vaio VGN-N220E. My WiFi connection will disconnect. I try to connect to my router, but it doesn't see it (or any of the neighboring routers in my neighborhood). I reboot my machine, nothing. After about 4-5 reboots, it works ...

Re: Cinnamon Crashing - Mint 17.2

An update: I completely wiped cinnamon from my computer "sudo apt-get remove --purge cinnamon" then ran "sudo apt-get autoremove". After that I rebooted and ran "sudo apt-get install cinnamon". This would (in theory) give me a clean installation of cinnamon and dependencies. It didn't work. It still...

Re: Cinnamon Crashing

Those programs are already installed and the latest version. I did that before posting on here. As my original post stated, I researched it thoroughly before posting (which included installed said programs). Output: goodstudent-VGN-N220E goodstudent # apt-get install mint-artwork-gnome Reading packa...

Cinnamon Crashing - Mint 17.2

Hello, I have a peculiar problem. I was clearing out unnecessary/old programs (specifically games) when I came across a "game" I didn't install called "cowsay". I removed it along with the other games I had installed. After removing cowsay, my computer didn't load cinnamon. I researched it and found...

Re: How to require password at login

Thank you, Cosmo!!! That did the trick. For those that might experience this issue, here's how I fixed it. I opened terminal (ctrl-alt-t) I entered " sudo gpasswd -d <USERNAME> nopasswdlogin " where <USERNAME> was goodstudent in my case (it'd be different for you, obviously) I rebooted the machine a...

How to require password at login

Hello, I am new to Linux. I have Mint 17 on my Sony Vaio. I've searched the forum for help and can't find a solution (but it has helped me get this far. :) ). Here's the dilemma I am having. I want to require a password when the computer boots up (for login). I have 1 user account, named "goodstuden...
