Re: What's your favorite native Linux game?

Mine would have to be Rocket League :) I was lucky enough to get Rocket League for free from Nvidia when I bought my EVGA GTX 1050 Ti SSC. Unfortunately my desktop died a week later so I haven't played it since then (probably over a year now...). I didn't get the chance to try it out on Linux, just...

Re: Linux Mint 19 “Tara” Cinnamon – BETA Release

I made a live USB and fired it up on my newer HP laptop. It seems great from the little that I used it. Cinnamon is noticeably snappier than it was in 18.3. It also seems like the battery life has improved too since the last release.

Printing to USB printer attached directly to router.

I'm trying to set up my printer on 18.2 Cinnamon 64-bit and I'm really struggling with it. I have an HP Deskjet F2430 printer that is connected via USB directly to my router which is a Linksys E3200. On Windows printing is accomplished via a driver installed from the router's setup CD. It's a 3rd pa...

Re: [SOLVED] WiFi connected but no internet while running Live USB

That worked perfectly! I ran those commands and then checked the results of iwconfig. My connection speed went up to the full 300Mb/s that my router is capable of and after switching my router back to N-only mode it still stayed connected in Mint. Thanks!

Re: [SOLVED] WiFi connected but no internet while running Live USB

UPDATE: So I was able to resolve the issue. I went into my router's settings page from my phone and changed the wireless properties from "n-only" to "mixed mode" on both bands and it started working instantly on my laptop running the Live USB. I searched online for my wireless ca...

Re: WiFi connected but no internet while running Live USB

Thanks for the quick reply. I tried the commands that you listed and afterward ran iwconfig to verify that power management was off and it was. Unfortunately upon connection to my wifi network I had the same results as before. When I opened Firefox, I still got "Server not found" and when ...

[SOLVED] WiFi connected but no internet while running Live USB

I decided to try out 18.2 Cinnamon 64 bit on my laptop. When I booted up the USB, I immediately had internet issues. I selected my WiFi network from the list and entered my password and got a notification saying I was connected, but when I clicked Firefox it brought up "Server not Found." ...

Re: All Desktop Screenshots for 2017

This is on my ancient laptop. It has MInt 18.2 XFCE installed, but I decided to try out LXQt with Compton. http://i1076.removed/albums/w450/MattMcD488/Public/lxqtscreen_zpsi2s1yg8b.jpg Screenfetch lists the Openbox theme incorrectly, it's actually Breeze as shown in the left window. The LXQt panel t...

Re: Linux Mint 18.1 “Serena” Xfce – BETA Release

I just installed this on my laptop last night and it is great. I actually love the new desktop backgrounds in Serena so much that I couldn't choose one and set it to switch every 10 minutes. They're really breathtaking! As always, XFCE is rock-solid. I really like the new prominent "Elevated Pr...

Re: Should I try to get rid of Win 10?

If you aren't sure you want to get rid of WIndows I'd say don't. You may need it for something ... some Linux users will say you can do anything in Linux that you can in WIndows but that is complete bollocks. I don't have any Windows anymore but I'm not a gamer and I don't use anything like Photosh...

Re: Should I to get rid of Win 10

Hi chiefjim, Sorry not to respond to this earlier. Didn't understand usb docking station. Thought it was just a charging station! Now find it is totally different. Yes sounds like a good idea. Would enable it still being possible to use my old Windows Vista system as well, using the old HDD. Had a ...

Re: Updating Bios Requires Windows OS on Acers and...

I used the FreeDOS approach to updating the BIOS on my ancient Dell laptop. The hardest part was finding the FreeDOS live image and after that the BIOS update went off without a hitch. @lexon I've read that Win 8 and 10 have default settings that conflict with dual-booting. I made sure Fast Boot and...

XFCE Power Manager not inheriting new icon set

I recently changed my system icon set to La Capitaine from Gnome-look.org and the power manager applet went to the fallback gnome icon. I looked in the folders for the icon set and sure enough, in the folders are all the battery indicator icons, about 3 full sets in 3 different folders. So my questi...

Re: Mint 18. DId you jump DE?

On my desktop I went from Cinnamon to KDE. I liked having more customization options and so far KDE has been more stable on my machine. On my laptop, I switched from Lubuntu to Mint 18 XFCE because It's still light on resources but looks far better and has more customization options.

Re: What is old oldest computer you saved with Linux?

Those were great laptops. They had a few issues but overall they work quite well. I agree. I love mine. The only issue that I've had is that mine tends to run a little on the warm side. I actually made that slightly better when I changed processors though because I removed the junk thermal tape on ...
