Re: Greetings from Germany - Finally made the switch

Hello my fellow Linux Mint users, after having dabbled with Linux since the first Ubuntu releases, I finally made the complete switch to Linux Mint 19.2 Cinnamon from Windows 10. And I have to say, I am still speechless how great everything works. Even World of Warcraft works perfect. In fact, my G...

World of Warcraft on Linux Mint!

First off, I installed Linux Mint again after a couple years and multiple Windows crashes and patch failures later. Man, I am IMPRESSED with how far Linux Mint has come along! What a great operating system. Linux Mint is staying on my laptop and I am saying GOOD-BYE to Windows 10 for-e-ver! With tha...

Re: Goodbye Windows! The Power Of Open Source

For some reason, I had Mint freeze on me on my Dell laptop and then when I went to boot, I would get the logo and then dropped to a command line and nothing would happen. Somehow the boot files or something got corrupted. However, it was so fast and easy to reload it I was back up and running in lik...

Re: Quick IP Switching?

Thanks. So I can have multiple profiles for the same connection? IE. I can have three profiles for the built in WIFI and just switch between them? That's awesome! I didn't know you could do that! How cool. I am still thinking in terms of Windows limits.

Thanks for the excellent suggestion.

Re: Libreoffice Calc - Major Embarrassing Problem

I am willing to try the latest version of Libreoffice 1st since I like it so much. If not, I guess I can try SoftOffice. One question - Libre came installed with Mint. In order to upgrade it to the latest - how do I remove the existing versions before installing from PPA? Thanks.

Re: Love Mint - Hate Apps!

Guys, thanks for the suggestions. This is what I have found so far after leaving Windows and MS Office and some rules I am trying to live by: 1. I don't want to run any MS products anymore - not in VM, playonlinux, etc. I want to get away from MS completely. I am done with their lock in and ridiculo...

Quick IP Switching?

I work at several different client sites and often have to use specific static IPs to get around the firewall restrictions. Before, when using Windows, I was using a program called TCP/IP Manager that would allow you to keep profiles of IP addresses with DNS, etc. You simply pick the IP profile and ...

Re: Libreoffice Calc - Major Embarrassing Problem

How can this be the case if people want others to take Linux seriously? There is no office suite that can handle large spreadsheets? Are you kidding me? I have over 16 megs of RAM and it's a brand new Acer laptop with a 7th generation quad core Intel processor. On top of that I have a top of the lin...

Libreoffice Calc - Major Embarrassing Problem

So I am the only one in my work environment who runs Linux and I am not someone who goes around and professes the wonders of Linux but people do ask questions when they see a different desktop and know I run it. Everything is working great with Mint except one embarrassing problem. When I am using L...

Updates Making WIFI Less Reliable

Since the last update where the WIFI icon changed from a regular network icon to the new WIFI icon with the WIFI signal bars (see attachment) my WIFI has been very unreliable. The WIFI still works and connects, however, it now drops out quite a bit and reconnects randomly. For example, WIFI will com...

Love Mint - Hate Apps!

I am trying to completely transition from Windows to Mint. I LOVE LOVE LOVE MINT. The problem is that I can't find a good app to replace M$ Office. Yes, Libre Office is nice but it does a bad job converting documents - specifically Powerpoint or graphics intensive documents. It takes a good deal of ...

Re: Recommendations regarding VPNs

The easiest, best and most secure way I have found is to do the following: 1. Install Untangle Firewall and install the OpenVPN app. (www.untangle.com). It's free and based on Linux. It has a GUI to configure OpenVPN for clients and super easy to setup and maintain. 2. Download the config files from...

How To Deal with Linux Shortcomings...

I made the switch over to Mint completely about 2 months ago. Deleted Windows off everything and moved forward. Since then, I am glad I did as I love Mint and have found replacement apps for almost everything except music production where I use 1 Windows machine. I have found some problems I can't f...

Touchpad Issues on Dell XPS

I have Linux Mint running on my Dell XPS laptop and it's working great except for the touchpad. When I am typing, I will hit the touchpad and the cursor will jump all over the place. I turned the option on that is suppose to stop the touchpad from working when typing but it doesn't seem to work. Is ...

Re: Goodbye Windows! The Power Of Open Source

I agree! I cannot believe how stable Linux is. I never have to reboot my system - EVER! When I was using Windows - no matter how expensive of a computer I bought and how carefully I installed and configured Windows, it would always crash. There wasn't a day I could get through without doing at least...

Goodbye Windows! The Power Of Open Source

I really didn't get the power of open source for a while and thought it was a stupid idea quite frankly. I never thought it would work - people programming for free. However, the last straw came when Windows rebooted in the middle of running a very long conversion script because there is now no way ...

I'm Finally Free From Microsoft

For years, I have attempted to move from Windows to Linux without much of any success. I would either have problems with drivers, poor application quality, and Exchange Server/Outlook support. As Linux has been getting better, I have always come back and try to break away from Microsoft Windows but ...
