Re: Why did Mate look so good on LMDE2 and what should I upgrade to?

I use Mate, and I hate to say it but it seems Mate is degenerating just like most other things in the digital world. The older version of Mate on Mint 17 was way better than the newer version that came with 18. That's when I first noticed it.

Re: XFCE alongside Mate

If you like it, then you can get rid of Mate (you may need to then repair grub, I'm not sure). That said, I don't think XFCE w...

Copying the profile folder from the desktop to the laptop should give you most if not all of what you're asking.

Re: Firewalld icon missing from Panel

Find the firewall in your start menu, right click on it and then select "Add to panel." That's the easiest way to do it in Mate.

FYI: I forgot to mention that Simple Screen Recorder (ssr) uses Control+r to start and stop recording (user changeable) and their icon changes to red while recording.
Thanks for the tip!

FYI, there's at least one case I've noticed, here.
I'm sure Moem meant malware specifically attacking the OS. That link was about malware that attacked java, which is OS independent.

Just great, I clicked on the link. I thought it had something to do with the current "green movement." :?
I hope there's nothing malicious being downloaded in the background. I think the link should be removed.

Re: Using ffmpeg to record desktop

Thanks phd21. Your code works, well sort of. (FTR, I use alsa, so I have to change "pulse" to alsa.) It makes a video, but it plays kind of funky. By that I mean in the player (SMPlayer) the seconds display goes about 10x as fast as what's actually on the screen. It was a 30 second video, and the ti...

I think some posts aren't mark solved because of either a) indifference; or b) just plain laziness.

EDIT
I have to add c) forgetfulness. I went back over some of my posts and found about 3 I had to add [SOLVED] to.

Re: [SOLVED] Microsoft in Linux ? (Open RA)

I understand your reasonings Pierre, but I've never broke my OSs deleting mono. And I suspect there'd be quite a few threads here roasting Pjotr if it broke anybody else's, but I don't recall seeing any.

Re: [SOLVED] Microsoft in Linux ? (Open RA)

You may want to read this, written by forum member Pjotr. There is a risk, howbeit a small one. I've always deleted mono on my Mint installs (I'm not a gamer, just solitaire and minesweeper games for me).

As long as you format it to NTFS it should work. I use a USB drive on both OSs no problem.
