Re: PCIE Wireless network cards that work with LM 19.1

It's too much to expect a list of compatible cards but if you have one that works I'd like to know what it's called. Pretty much any Intel wireless PCIE card should function. Hi Thanks for your reply, I wasn't able to buy an intel card that would go into a PCs pcie slot, they mainly now seem to fit...

PCIE Wireless network cards that work with LM 19.1

Hi, Can anyone suggest a wifi PCIE network cards that will work with LM 19.1 (Kernal 4.15.0-55)? I'm hoping the fact that it would have antenna might improve reception between it and the router beyond what my usb dadapter can do. I've looked at various retailers web sites and seen a few that are sai...

Re: Switch from intel to AMD with same installation of mint?

Yes, it is the iGPU which causes issues with older firmware. If your Intel system works, upgrade the firmware from there and swap the hardware. Otherwise you should be able to upgrade the firmware from the Ryzen system as well. Hi, Thanks for your help. It's much appreciated. I'll be busy trying ev...

Re: Switch from intel to AMD with same installation of mint?

Hi, Thanks for your reply. I will follow up all the links included. I wasn't aware of the problems with this CPU but is it the the GPU part of the 2200g or is the the CPU in general? Do you think I could install a GPU to start with, then update the firmware etc and then revert to the CPU with its GP...

Switch from intel to AMD with same installation of mint?

Hi, I'm switching from an intel motherboard Gigabyte GA-H81M-S2V and I5 3470 CPU to an AMD motherboard Asrock A320M-HDV and a Ryzen 3 2200g. Now is it possible that my installation of Linux Mint 19.1 on the existing hard disk will cope with the switch or do I need to reinstall Linux Mint to make sur...

Re: Edimax AC1200 (EW-7822ULC) wifi adapter problem

Hi,
thanks for your advice. It was the space in the folder name that was the problem. I should have rmembered that spaces are a bad idea in Linux names. Thanks again.

Edimax AC1200 (EW-7822ULC) wifi adapter problem

Hi, I'm trying to get the above adapter working with LM 19.1 and am having no luck at the moment. If I try to install the driver rtl8822bu with make then make install I get the following errors. bertie@bertie:~/Downloads/AC1200 edimax/rtl8822bu-master$ make make ARCH=x86_64 CROSS_COMPILE= -C /lib/mo...

Wifi adapter needs to be unplugged then plugged in to work

Hi, I've just installed Mint 19.1 and currently the wifi adapter I have does not initially work on boot up. However if I unplug the adapter from the usb socket and insert it again it starts to work. It's not the most annoying thing in the world, but does anyone have an idea about why this might happ...

Hi, I've been trying playonlinux but not had any success. I think I'll stick with the wine version that MINT installs.

Install two versions of wine. Is it possible or desirable?

Hi, I'd like to install a more recent version of wine than the one that comes with Linux Mint by default (1.6). However is it possible to do that while keeping the earlier version? If I don't keep the earlier version is it likley that windows programs I installed using the ealier version will still ...

Sharing folders between Linux Mint computers

Hi, Over my wireless connection I can share folders with my windows PC but don't seem able to do it between the two linux Mint machines. I don't think you use samba to link linux machines but if not then what do you use and how do you set it up. I have heard of something called NFS but am not sure w...

Just one other thing. REMEMBER to never exceed the maximum resolution given by your screen manufacturers specs even if the software appears to offer higher ones.

Re: Install LM19 without timeshift and new update application?

Hi thanks for your reply. I think I have now set it up correctly from my point of view but I made the mistake of making a snapshot just after I installed it all. Is there a way to delete it and disable timeshift? This may all seem strange but I only have a 240Gb SSD on the PC that I want to install ...

Timeshift. Where can I keep the snapshot?

Hi,
If I am using timeshift in LM19 can I keep the snap shot on the same disk and partition as the main Linux installation or does that defeat the purpose? Should it always be on a separate disk/partition?
