Re: Weather App

Okay, so ymmv. Just was throwing it out there as a possibility to use. I have this on 5 different systems..works on all of them. I just tried random spots around the US and Canada. They all seemed to be accurate. Are you saying they are not? I presume that when you all click on the get WOEID button,...

Re: Weather App

Which weather app are you using? I use this one: Weather_App.png Once installed, go to Menu, Preferences, Applets , click the weather app once, then click on the configure button at the bottom, and then you can click the get WOEID button in the pop-up box to go to the web page and enter your locale ...

Re: battery level warning on a laptop

There is no extraction or scripting needed by you for the applet. Go to Menu --> Preferences --> Applets , click on the Available on line or Download tab, (depending on which version you have), find the BAMS applet, and install it. Then, copy this text exactly sudo apt-get install zenity sox libsox-...

Re: battery level warning on a laptop

We use Battery Applet with Monitoring and Shutdown on our Mac laptop. Seems to work well. Set a slider for the warning percentage, and the suspend point is a fixed percentage below that. Gives a color icon that changes color at the warning, and also give a short session of beeps. The creator also su...

Re: Help with locking up issue

Just throwing this out there from left field, but next time you get to that state, try clicking your mouse once, then, flying blind, type your password and hit enter. See if your system video comes back OK or with the dysfunctional graphics, or if it is no help. Kind of odd its locking it up so hard...

Re: [SOLVED] how to troubleshoot v e r y s l o w shutdown/reboot?

hooly, Look at the attached photo, at the very bottom of the display screen. This is likely what your system was pausing 90 seconds for. You can see its at 17 seconds of 1:30 to make CUPS printers available locally (?) It seems this was previously a bug (https://askubuntu.com/questions/982171/cups-d...

Re: Replacement for CoreTemp?

Go into a terminal, then run sudo sensors-detect (answer y to all the questions) After that, go to software center and install "psensor." It will show you the detected sensors (temps & fan speeds as available). Doesn't minimize to a number in the panel tray unfortunately, and the applet that is supp...

Re: Macbook Pro Fan Issues

I suspect "start" doesn't affect it, since it has already attempted to start, but for some reason is stalling, and somewhat explains why restart would work. To try and dig out a little more info, the next time you can get it to the point where it should be controlling fan speed, but is not, type thi...

Try one of these in Terminal next time you get to the point it seems it don't want to run:

/etc/init.d/macfanctld restart

/etc/init.d/macfanctld force-reload

Re: Macbook Pro Fan Issues

I don't suppose you're dual-booting it, are you? Mac has a application similar in function as well, as the stock configuration just wasn't that great. If dual booting, could try Macs Fan Control ...may be a hardware issue? Just a thought in the off-chance you still had OSX on it. Sorry, you've got m...

Re: Macbook Pro Fan Issues

Have you modified the settings in your /etc/macfanctl.conf file? A quick web search shows people have used it successfully on Macs as early as 2006. Currently using it on a early 2010 Macbook, and just did some monitoring. Macbook_shot.jpeg Do you have lm-sensors and Psensor installed? I was letting...

Re: Change font size when when printing from xed text editor?

Just tried experimenting with this. It appears the settings from "Preferences" that you likely adjusted, are just for the workspace view. Do you have these option tabs, specifically the "Text Editor" tab, when you click on "print", as below: xed_print_options.png Here's a shot of the print preview w...

Re: Transferring Files To Iphone SE iOS 11.3 on LM 18.3

I use FTP Manager (Apple Store App) for my iPad. Have had good luck with it. Displays a simple file manager for your iPad, and for your remote destination once you establish one. Obviously not the fastest way to transfer lots of photos, but it works with no fuss. http://skyjos.com/ftpmanager/index.php

Re: Wireless Epson XP-640 not waking and print jobs stuck

Jerry, I don't have an Epson printer, but my HP does do a similar thing. The PC isn't getting the subscription properly renewed. You can check this by typing: http://localhost:631/admin/log/access_log? (presuming this works with any printer/CUPS setup) in a web browser page-- it will ask for your us...

Re: Fan non-stop working [Sony Vaio]

Hi Europa, According to your BIOS date, your Vaio is about 8 years old. Have you ever had it cleaned? Noticing your CPU/GPU temps are in the 70C's. (its getting hot) Was that at idle, or did you have something running? If you've never had it apart, and it's within your comfort level, you make want t...

You can change the event sounds by clicking on the "speaker" icon in the tray, then select "Sound Settings", then the "Sound Effects" tab. Click on the name of the *.ogg file you want to change to mix/match to your preference. You can also make your own *.ogg sounds/audio. This is an example of an o...
