USB Graphics Cards
Hi, Just a quick question. Does anyone have any experience with adding USB Graphics Cards to a Linux Mint 20 machine, in order to power additional monitors? I have a USB Graphics Card / Adaptor similar to the one in this link (actually the only difference is that mine isn't branded) https://www.targ...

Cannot Connect to Second NAS Drive
Hi Thanks to the help I received in this thread - https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=157&t=327818 I've been able to map my shared drives from my first NAS Drive to my Linux Mint computer. I've since acquired a second NAS unit, and have attempted to connect a shared drive from it to my ...

Remote Desktop Control Problems
Hi I'm trying to RDP into Linux Mint 20, from Windows 10 using the Microsoft RDP client. I get as far as seeing the XRDP interface that gives me the "Session" "Username" and "Password" options. So far so good. The problem comes with Xorg. I've installed Xorg on the Linu...

Re: Linux Mint 20 NAS Drive Mounting problems.
Thank you both for your help. I've got it working the way I'd always hoped that it would now.
One quick question though, what's the significance to the uid & gid numbers? i.e. why 1000?

Re: Linux Mint 20 NAS Drive Mounting problems.
I just tried editing the fstab file. The drives came up in My Computer but not in the quick links...that said I wasn't able to open the folders in My Computer as it was only permitted for Root. At this point I noticed your comments about the credentials in the Samba smb.conf file. What I have there,...

Re: Linux Mint 20 NAS Drive Mounting problems.
Thanks Andy
I'll give the fstab edit a go.
I think we were writing at the same time. You were posting as I was editing my last post, with a couple of instances that failed. i.e, connecting to "My Documents". Any ideas about that?
Thanks again
Martin

Re: Linux Mint 20 NAS Drive Mounting problems.
That worked :D I'm really pleased. Thank you very much for that. Will it be a session only connection or can it be made permanent? Secondly, I replicated this with /video and /photo and everything worked well. It didn't work with /My Documents, I suspect because it's a two word folder name. I tried ...

Re: Linux Mint 20 NAS Drive Mounting problems.
Thanks. I need to reset, as my "max" settings were SMB2. To reset to SMB3 needs a network restart , so I'll just have to wait a day or so for some video transcoding across the network to end, and I'll be on it.

Re: Linux Mint 20 NAS Drive Mounting problems.
Thanks, I tried twice, bearing in mind that on the NAS, the "Music" folder is not in root but rather in "volume1". So, when I tried the path per the instructions, i.e. sudo mount -t cifs -o username='xxxx',password='yyyy' //192.168.0.2/music /home/martin/Music --verbose I got: mo...

Re: Linux Mint 20 NAS Drive Mounting problems.
The equivalent mount command to test it before modifying fstab would be: sudo mount -t cifs //diskstation.local/music/ /home/martin/Music -o credentials=/etc/samba/credentials,uid=1000,gid=1000,nofail Don't think you will need uid=1000,gid=1000 as you are mounting in your home folder - try it. Than...

Re: Linux Mint 20 NAS Drive Mounting problems.
Thanks for the replies. Sorry for the delay in replying, the issues I've been having has meant that I've left the Linux Mint PC on the back burner whilst other things have taken priority. So basically to answer your questions: I'm using Linux Mint 20, Cinnamon version 4.6.7, Kernel version 5.8.0-31 ...

I have problems with DR too, on my Linux Mint 20 computer. I've been looking around for solutions and it seems that everyone with problems is using AMD graphics cards/drivers. So their problems & solutions seem a little different to mine. I have an NVIDIA C79 (GeForce9100M G) graphics card, and ...

Linux Mint 20 NAS Drive Mounting problems. [Solved]
Hi. Please excuse a complete "noob" asking a question that's probably been asked a million times in various guises, but to cut a long story short, I can't seem to get the right syntax to establish a connection between my Synology NAS's /Music folder and the /home/martin/Music folder on my ...
