Re: Lack of image thumbnails in Caja

Hi guys,

So, I added a user for my wife, and this new user has thumbnails! How bizarre!

Easy option now would be to create another user for me, and delete the current one I'm using... But it still doesn't answer why....

Cheers, Scott.

Re: Lack of image thumbnails in Caja

Just trying to re-visit this, has anyone else had this issue?

Here's a screenshot of my desktop with some .jpg and .png files, neither display thumbnails, just like in Caja.

Re: Ooops... I've re-formatted my boot sector

Thanks guys.. I'm sure it won't be the last time I do something silly with Gpatrted... It's all down to rushing, and I guess it's easy to get complacent after putting in your password, since so many operations require it, you get used to putting it in and carrying on without realising the potential ...

Re: Lack of image thumbnails in Caja

Just thought I'd mention that even image files placed on the desktop don't show a thumbnail... could this indicate it's not a Caja issue, but more of a system issue?

Re: Lack of image thumbnails in Caja

Hi CAZ,

Thanks for the help, yes, default view was set to Icon View, tried the others too, but alas, to no avail...

Tried apt-get update and upgrade, but it's not fixed it...

I had Mint 18 Sarah on here before, and it wasn't an issue then.

Re: Lack of image thumbnails in Caja

Thanks, Yep, glad to check the obvious... here we go: Screenshot at 2017-02-22 15-30-31.png Screenshot at 2017-02-22 15-31-27.png Zooming up to 400% still does not help... And another odd thing, in List view the Name column seems to be really wide (in all folders), and I can't reduce it's size to se...

Lack of image thumbnails in Caja

Hi guys, Just upgraded to Mint 18.1 Serena, and Caja 1.16.1 I can't seem to be able to see any image thumbnails, local, or remote, any size, jpg or png etc... My settings: Screenshot at 2017-02-22 14-27-31.png Is there a bug in this latest release? Is it a common issue? Is there a fix? Cheers, Scott

Re: Ooops... I've re-formatted my boot sector

After messing around for a while, I decided to throw in the towel as I could see it taking all night. I'm currently installing the latest Mint version, and if I've lost anything from my desktop or home folder, be it a lesson to me to keep on top of my admin. Thanks for all the help though guys... St...

Re: Ooops... I've re-formatted my boot sector

Hi guys, thanks for the help. Well, I was able to boot to a Mint live iso USB stick, and able to mount the boot partition and see that I'd reformatted it to EXT4. So I put it back to FAT32. I was also able to mount the HDD and browse (after entering the encryption password, but then I couldn't get i...

Ooops... I've re-formatted my boot sector

What a schoolboy error.. I was using gparted in a rush last night and accidentally re-formatted my boot partition. Now when I boot, I get this: grub-rescue.jpg I'm happy to re-install Mint, but want to know if there is a way I can backup the files form my desktop? My drive is encrypted using the sta...

Re: Some CD tracks don't show up in Nemo or Sound Juicer, but do in VLC and Banshee

Hi, thanks for the thought.. The two tracks are part of the normal story, listed in the CD inlay, I can't see a reason for them to be hidden tracks like some bands put at the end of an album.. It's still a puzzler... I got round it by using Banshee to complete the job. I wonder if Nemo has a limit t...

Some CD tracks don't show up in Nemo or Sound Juicer, but do in VLC and Banshee

Hi all, An audiobook CD I'm trying to rip has 25 tracks. VLC and Banshee show all of the tracks. Sound Juicer (what I've been using to rip the audio CD's as it does MP3 ID3 tagging), and Nemo file explorer both only see the first 23 tracks, the last two are missing / not shown. This is a bit of a pu...

Re: Two sided scanning with SimpleScan? - HP Officejet 7612

I'm an idiot - I've just figured it out with SimpleScan...

Scan all side A's, then all Side B's, and SimpleScan gives you an option to interleave the pages like the HP software on Windows.

Job done with SimpleScan!

Two sided scanning with SimpleScan? - HP Officejet 7612

Hi all, I use this neat printer / scanner for work on a windows machine using the HP software, which allows two-sided scanning. It has a single sided document feeder, the windows HP software scans side A of all sheets, then asks you to turn the sheets around - it then scans side B of all sheets and ...

Thank you Karl,

Many thanks, Scott

sudo Nemo struggles to SFTP to my server

Hi, when I want to remotely edit a file on my Ubuntu server from my Mint PC, for instance /etc/fstab I'm having to SSH and use nano at the command prompt. When editing normal files (ie with open read / write access) it's not a problem at all to use nemo and xed. I have tried starting Nemo on the Min...

Controlling VLC with media keyboard while screen is locked.

Hi all, I use a keyboard with media buttons, which works very nicely for VLC. However, I work between 2 computers, one is my Mint PC that I use for music. When the phone rings, I need to pause the music using the keyboard button, but if the screen is locked due to timeout, the keyboard commands don'...
