Re: Impact of Cinnamon >>>> Linux Mint

I personally feel that like myself the Ubuntu problem doesn't just lie with "Unity" itself (but its a major factor), its also an ignorance or lack of respect displayed by Ubuntu's owners towards its users and a very bad case of "Elitism" displayed on Ubuntu Forums recently towards users that don't f...

Re: If Linux Mint disappeared tomorrow, what would you use?

I would have go to another distro I cant be bothered with mainstream ubuntu (post 10.04Lts best one yet IMO) anymore, given many recent issues with that distro/forum. Let's hope this doesn't happen though (I'd also consider Debian if Linux Mint disappeared)

Re: Which version of Mint are forum users using, and why?

I am using Linux Mint 12 with the default DE, I came to Linux Mint because of the Ubuntu "Unity" farce, which IMO is little more than a tantrum against Gnome 3.0. I like the blending of Gnome 3.0 with mint extensions has it allows users to adjust from gnome 2.0 to gnome 3.0 easier, by providing both...

Re: Touchpad stops working in Mint 12

Hello everyone,

I own a Acer Aspire One D260A (A newer version of the D250)

The terminal commands:

sudo rmmod psmouse

sudo modprobe psmouse

Seem to fix the touchpad for me too (You get an error inbetween issuing both commands but just ignore it) 8)

Re: Mint Overtakes Ubuntu for #1 spot

Way to go Clem, keep up the good work Iam yet another ex-ubuntu user, the rot has well and truely set in over on the Ubuntu camp, this is only my opinion but I hope Linux mint considers dumping Ubuntu for Debians base in time. Debian should be easier to use has it doesn't contain the "Unity" farce. ...

Benefits of LM11 on LM10?

Hiya everyone, Is there anyway to add some/most of the new improvements of Linux Mint 11 to Linux Mint 10 without upgrading the distro completely? The reason I ask this is I will give LM11 a try but I am aware of several bugs and video problems on Ubuntu 11.04 which it is based on. If these cannot b...

Re: Dear Ubuntu, Leaving you for Mint--A "Dear John." letter

They will if Linux Mint or Debian knock them off the top slot I am far from alone in migrating to Linux Mint, recent events with 11.04's "Unity" and getting rid of the quit icon, have caused the rot to set in. Like all Exe's goodbye and good riddance, thanks for leading me to Linux Mint. Hope the do...

Re: Is Linux Mint 11 going to use "Unity"

UPDATE: Unfortunately this is no longer true Linux Mint team has decieded to stick to the gnome 2 version used in ubuntu 11.04. This is to keep consitancy and though i myself feel a bit "miffed" about losing gnome3.0 its probably a good call as gnome3 still has some instabilities with both gnome-she...

Re: Netbook screen dims when typing (LM10) and in terminal

The initial problem about windows xp refusing to install is solved by copying the "Windows Boot manager" file from a Windows Vista or Windows 7 Setup disc via dos recovery console from the disc. However the brightness problem is a hardware fault, this netbook has now been returned to manufacturer fo...

Re: Live DVD stalls during initial startup

Ive just noticed this old post of mine, it seemed to be a problem with the external cd drive which is USB the work around is using "Unetbootin" to create a bootable live usb stick from the iso (1GB to 2GB in size) then selecting it at boot up and installing from that instead, works for me now anyhow...
