Re: Delays accessing nfs shares in nemo

My concerns are two-fold: 1) information may be leaking to the Internet. 2) If I'm on a metered Internet connection (my fibre connection is not metered, but my LTE backup is), I'm consuming data allowance. So, can anyone suggest who/what might be causing the delay? More than likely not. Your concer...

Delays accessing nfs shares in nemo

I'm not sure whether this is a networking topic or a nemo application topic! My main Internet connection has been off for the last three days. During that time, I became aware that it was taking a long time to display the contents of localdomain nfs shares within nemo. This makes me believe that som...

Re: Bluetooth unable to pair since 19.3 -> 20.0 upgrade

Okay, removing the apostrophe from the phone device name eliminates errors logged in systemctl. This must be a new fault - I haven't changed the phone name in almost two years.

However, while I can now, apparently, pair the devices, I still cannot transfer any files in either direction.

Bluetooth unable to pair since 19.3 -> 20.0 upgrade

I had bluetooth working okay under 19.3. Since upgrading to 20.0, bluetooth no longer works/pairs. I used to be able to transfer files from phone to computer and from computer to phone. I have installed bluetooth manager, but that doesn't make things any better. The phone can see the computer and th...

Re: After upgrade from 19.3 to 20, file-roller fails

Right, I've resolved the issue - for some reason, an old copy of libarchive.so had been installed in /usr/local/lib alongside Python libraries. Deleting that allows file-roller to run.

Ok, try sudo apt remove --purge, then reinstall.
Thanks again - but no improvement. The response is exactly the same.

Insufficient information. Post the exact apt command that you used.
Thanks for your response.

I did 'sudo apt remove file-roller' followed by 'sudo apt install file-roller'

Brave 1.0.0 segfaults on window/tab recovery

Just today, I have encountered a problem with Brave. Every time I launch Brave and it attempts to recover windows/tabs from a previous session it results in a segfault crash. I believe that Brave was recently upgraded to v1.0.0. Reverting to the previous version (v0.70.123) makes the problem go away...

Re: 2nd instance of Brave segfaults

Just today, I started seeing segfaults every time Brave starts up and attempts to recover previous session windows/tabs. I have found that downgrading from Brave 1.0.0 (bionic) to the previous version, eliminates the problem.

Re: 19.2 Cinnamon left mouse clicks die

Seems maybe a kernel problem. You could go back to an earlier kernel when it worked, or try a newer one and hope it hasn't same "regression" in it. I have the same kernel (which has been upgraded a few times since installation) running on all machines, and the machine in question is the o...

Network configuration - which method in use?

I'm exploring network configuration - I have four machines running 19.2, one of which has been upgraded over the years and the rest are relatively new (19.1/19.2) installations. Networking on the newer installations is working as I wish/expect. However, the older machine is proving to be more diffic...

Re: Tara: Resolving of .local domains not working

Sorry for the very late response to this thread, but ..... I believe that a fresh 19.2 install gets this correct, whereas 19.1 (and earlier?) and thus any upgrades therefrom, get it wrong. It seems that the correct resolution to this issue is that /etc/resolv.conf should be a softlink to /run/system...

Re: 19.2 Cinnamon left mouse clicks die

Thanks for your response. I've tried with a wireless mouse and a wired (USB) mouse. Both exhibit this problem. It's nothing to do with the wireless connection - I've been using this wireless mouse (Logitech) for years. It was fine with 19.1 and started to exhibit this problem after I upgraded (by re...

19.2 Cinnamon left mouse clicks die

Since re-installing for the upgrade to 19.2, one of my machines has been suffering a weird problem (it was okay on 19.1): After booting up/logging in, the mouse works normally but after a short elapsed time (or after a few clicks?), further left-clicks don't register on window furniture (but do on i...

Just got it to work by using "MulticastDNS=resolve" in /etc/systemd/resolved.conf in a Mint 19 VirtualBox guest configured for NAT (i.e., not "Bridged Adapter") on a Mint 18.3 host, together with deleting the [NOTFOUND=return] part of the /etc/nsswitch.conf "hosts:" li...

Re: systemd-resolved stub resolver?

Having re-read the thread closer I'm now fairly certain that your main issue is that you have named your local machine foo.local. The .local suffix is reserved for mDNS. This was again no different on 18, so although I do see that U18.04/Mint 19 switched to Netplan, it seems we need more explicit i...
