Re: Tara: Resolving of .local domains not working

Just got it to work by using "MulticastDNS=resolve" in /etc/systemd/resolved.conf in a Mint 19 VirtualBox guest configured for NAT (i.e., not "Bridged Adapter") on a Mint 18.3 host, together with deleting the [NOTFOUND=return] part of the /etc/nsswitch.conf "hosts:" line I confirm that this has wor...

Re: Tara: Resolving of .local domains not working

I've set to 'false' and local name resolution seems to be working correctly now.

Re: systemd-resolved stub resolver?

Having re-read the thread closer I'm now fairly certain that your main issue is that you have named your local machine foo.local. The .local suffix is reserved for mDNS. This was again no different on 18, so although I do see that U18.04/Mint 19 switched to Netplan, it seems we need more explicit i...

Re: systemd-resolved stub resolver?

Thanks for your input! Since installing v19, my /etc/resolv.conf gets a loopback address inserted as a nameserver. This should not be since 19; for many releases now Ubuntu/Mint, through use of NetworkManager, uses a machine-local copy of dnsmasq on 127.0.1.1 as the main DNS-resolver (i.e., the one ...

Re: systemd-resolved stub resolver?

I have found that similar problems afflict other distros. My preferred solution, now, is to edit the nsswitch.conf file. Where the default installation seems to create a 'hosts' configuration line in the nsswitch.conf, with the 'dns' entry at the end of the line, it works better, for me, with the 'd...

Re: Software Sources fails

Karl,
Thanks, once more, for your assistance.

Code: Select all

LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 pkexec mintsources
runs okay so, yes, the problem lies with locale.

The question, then is how to make this work (and, possibly, other applications) without having to make a temporary locale change every time it runs.

Re: mintupgrade check: "pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks" – How to diagnose & fix?

If it's an option, back up your settings and do a clean install. It'll probably be faster and more reliable than investing time into manually fixing things that you currently don't even know are broken. Thanks for the response - not really the answer I wanted to hear, but that's not your fault! Oh,...

Re: mintupgrade check: "pkgProblemResolver::Resolve generated breaks" – How to diagnose & fix?

I fell foul of this problem, when I ran the upgrade on Friday. I wasn't quite sure what was going on and managed to get Mint 19 (Cinnamon) up and running with some aptitude magic. However, I note that xreader is not now available on my system. Restoring a Timeshift snapshot is not an option - firstl...

Re: systemd-resolved stub resolver?

Do any of the suggestions here help? Thanks for your assistance, but none of those really fix the problem - most of them simply involve hard-coding the dns server address rather than fixing the problem to ensure that the dns server address, provided via dhcp, is used. I have hard-coded as a conveni...

systemd-resolved stub resolver?

I have a separate dns server running on my network (dnsmasq), which is able to resolve all of my local addresses. The address of my dns server is promulgated via dhcp. Since installing v19, my /etc/resolv.conf gets a loopback address inserted as a nameserver, With this in place, none of my local add...

[Resolved] Re: Cinnamon in software rendering mode.

Someone actually fixed it for me. Use this command and restart after it installs sudo apt install libegl-mesa0 Thanks, that did the trick, although I had to use aptitude because one dependency was at a higher version than that required by libegl-mesa0, and had to be downgraded. I think that I had d...

Re: Cinnamon in software rendering mode.

Is it okay for me to add to this thread? I suspect my problems are similar, but with a Nehalem integrated Intel Graphics controller. I've been running 17.x, 18.x on this hardware, for years. Now I've upgraded to 19, I'm stuck in hardware rendering mode. I had no problems running a 4.15 kernel with 1...

Re: No sound from 'Test Sound' in Sound config panel

What might be preventing 'Test sound' from working, when everything else (that I've tried) appears to work correctly? Is it possible that Test sound isn't finding the .wav files? I've just realised that, of course, no desktop sounds are working, although several are turned on in sound config, and t...

Solved: No sound from 'Test Sound' in Sound config panel (or any other desktop Sound Effects)

I'm not sure whether this is a problem or not! I've been re-instating sound after a mobo swap.. My sound device is the built-in sound on my Intel DH55HC mobo, using HDMI connection to play through TV speakers. With my existing Sarah/Cinnamon installation I have got to a state where: aplay a.wav and ...

Re: Mint 18 and Brother scanner (Solved)

I appear to have a similar problem. The scanner on my networked Brother MFC was working great under Rosa, but failed to respond after I upgraded to Sarah. scanimage -L totally failed to find the scanner. I looked at my Arch Linux system, where the scanner works perfectly. This led me to believe that...
