Re: Poll: respins of Linux Mint
I already made one :-) I purged a Bunch of stuff I never use and installed a few things that I do use. Including ia32-libs , sun-java6 , Boinc , etc... etc... etc... Then I made some changes in the sources.list and (sudo apt update) and (sudo apt upgrade) to install all current updates. In the end i...

Re: Creating a Distribution
zerozero, I would like to thank you so much for the link you posted ! http://community.linuxmint.com/tutorial/view/918 I have spent the last few hours purging programs I don't want and installing ones I do want , and I did all the current updates. As a plus I learned how to edit using nano when I up...

Re: The actual use of good hardware.
I can tell you for sure that you can use Linux for FAR more than just surfing the Internet. ;-) I am running on an i7 990x CPU -- 12 GB RAM -- AMD HD7970 video card (upgraded since after the screen-shot was made) I use it for Distributed computing , CAD , Video encoding and much more. I wish my hard...

Re: AMD/ATI & NVidia proprietary video drivers
I had thought it would just be a matter of reading and agreeing to the terms of use agreement, like when I install sun-java or Virtualbox. I just wish there would be an easier , more sure way to install video drivers because some functions require the proprietary drivers to work correctly. (Specific...

AMD/ATI & NVidia proprietary video drivers
I wonder if it would be possible to incorporate the the choice of installing proprietary video drivers into the initial install of Mint 13 ? It can be problematic installing the drivers on Linux especially for new users and it would be a big help if this was an automated choice during the initial in...

Re: Startup Manager / Services + Mint 13
The "a Startup Manager" was just meant to be a generic term.
Whatever you want to call it Grub Customizer or whatever... Something would be better than Nothing at all , like in 12...

Re: fastest ubuntu,debian distro
Ikey, I have to agree with you about that as long as it is Gnome 2 I really like the stability of Squeeze and I was just looking at different OS and Desktops because of wanting to stay away from Gnome 3. I don't care one bit about the latest and greatest software, I just want my Comp. to be reliable...

Re: UEFI: Windows 8 will ban Linux running on ARM
Thanks karliet , I may end up getting an Intel MB if I can't get an answer from Gigabyte.
@ viking777,
You are so right. I have asked repeatedly on the Gigabyte forum about this but
the Silence is Deafening ! No response at all.
No yes, no , maybe or anything at all...Nothing.

Nice survey , thanks for asking.
I wish Clem would do such a survey.
I have a feeling the most vocal on the forums are the Minority and the least vocal are the Majority.
i.e. "The Silent Majority"

karliet,
May I ask which Mother Board you have ?
I was planning to get a new Gigabyte MB soon but I can't seem to find out if it will have the "disable UEFI" feature or not...

Re: Linux Mint 7 on EEE 701
I am not sure I understand correctly but by your post title ( Linux Mint 7 on EEE 701 ) I take it to mean you are now running Mint 7 ? If so you will need to update your sources.list to be able to install anything new. Try this and see if that helps... http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=18&...

I vote for Mint XFCE based on Debian Stable.
I wouldn't mind if they just completely dumped Ubuntu and Gnome 3.

Re: fastest ubuntu,debian distro
I just installed Debian Squeeze XFCE by way of debian-6.0.3-amd64-netinst . I have to say it is the fastest by far of any of the full featured OS I have ever used. It is using only less than 100 MB memory and everything is blazing fast. (Takes <10 seconds from Grub to Desktop ) I think the n...

Re: Dual boot XP/Lisa on seperate HD
I was really hoping someone else would also offer some help and/or suggestions , but since no one else has here is my advice... Make very sure you are installing to the right drive so you don't mess up XP !!! This is all assuming you are reinstalling Mint 12. First make your Linux drive the Primary ...
