Re: Hello. Prospective Linux User in Canada.

Unfortunately the ones I have I checked on amazon - no longer available. This is a question best asked on the thinkpad forum, I'm sure someone there can point you at an available caddy that works:

Re: Error message tryint to install mint

How did you create the install stick? More details needed.

Secure boot is broken in the standard LM21.3 iso, you could use the edge version or disable secure boot in BIOS.

Re: old Olympus C-2100 ultra-zoom digital cam: files can't be accessed

SD cards are normally formatted fat32. Were you plugging the SD card into a reader or via a SD/usb adaptor? Plugged the card from my camera (Pentax) into the SD slot in my thinkpad T430 - no go, but plug it into a SD/usb adaptor and plug that into a usb port in the laptop, no problems.

Re: When I start Linux mint it sends me to GNU grub with command lines

I suspect that MiZoG thinks it might be AMD hardware and the latest update of the 5.15 kernel to -112 may be the problem. In which case booting an older kernel will fix the problem.

Re: When I start Linux mint it sends me to GNU grub with command lines

When you boot, as soon as you see the manufacturer's splash screen start repeatedly pressing the Esc key to get the grub menu.

Re: Can Windows guest corrupt Linux host?

Short answer is no, but files saved from the guest on the host could contain a win virus - depends where you got them from. Note - you should never save data files in the guest, always save them on the host. In virtualbox you do this through shared folders, in win they appear as network drives. Why?...

Re: I replaced my HDD for SSD and bought a data xfer cable - cannot open drive. Please help.

Bare drives come blank, you have to format them before you can use them. This means putting a partition table on the drive and then creating partitions. gparted is best for this but you can, if you must, use disks. Creating the partition table is "hidden" in disks behind the three dot icon...

I have used filezilla for years without problem, what's the issue?

With VPNs you get what you pay for. I use PIA, mullvad is another good choice.

Re: Mint - Executable Files

Anything can be inside a tar file, it's just an archive format. What have you downloaded and what are you trying to run? As suggested it may be as simple as making the file executable.

Re: Audio files I can actually play??

However in just a couple of days I am already annoyed and struggling with some of the pretentious glitches of this OS (for example I can't just run a *.exe to install a program???? confused). Linux is NOT windows, it is a completely different operating system, neither is it pretentious. So why shou...

I don't see a use case for LVM on the desktop, servers yes. You are adding an additional layer of complexity you don't need.

Re: Software installation via Synaptic versus Software Manager Flatpak

Software in synaptic or "system packages" in software manager tend to be older, mint's focus is on stability. Flatpaks are newer, but require more drive space, flatpaks come bundled with all the required dependencies. Unless you absolutely must have some feature in the latest version, stic...

Re: Intel UHD 620 Drivers Not Loading

Can't explain the graphics drivers not loading, but with that CPU you should be fine with 5.15 kernel. Yes three partitions is normal, one for your bootloader (EFI partition), one for boot and one for / . You need a separate boot partition because you have used encryption. grub doesn't understand en...

If this is intermittent, I'd blame the cable or connections and this would explain the resolution - failing to read the monitor's EDID.

Re: Install Linux Mint to a stand alone USB HD

can I skip the part about making partitions since I am going to use the entire hard drive for Mint? I don't like to get involved with partitions as they are very confusing to me. Thanks. Yes, select "erase and install" and the installer will do it all for you. But... There is a bug in the...

Re: Do authors of LM want their OS was used more?

On top of that, ISO file sizes are starting to get ridiculous. There really should be a new standard when it comes to OS installs. Have you seen the size of a win iso? It has been too big to fit on a DVD for some time now. Mint is quite modest in comparison. Having said that, there is increasing bl...
