Re: And another one gets put on my refuse to use list !!!
You can make a bootable iso of your installed system, systemback is one utility, respin is another. I have never used either.

Re: Full disk backup without empty sectors
All three utilities mentioned only backup used blocks on partitions with known filesystems like ext4 and ntfs. Foxclone and rescuezilla additionally compress the image files to save further space. Clonezilla will as well but I don't know if it is a default. Foxclone and rescuezilla are front ends fo...

Re: And another one gets put on my refuse to use list !!!
I'm thinking the size of an image file would be dependent on how much compression is used, which I believe can be changed in each program. In earlier versions of foxclone you could change the compression level. I removed it, beyond compression level = 1, it takes a lot longer for very little gain. ...

Re: And another one gets put on my refuse to use list !!!
I would be interested in a comparison, how long to backup with macrium and resultant image file sizes compared to same with foxclone. While I agree with Jeannie on finding linux equivalents to what you used to do in win, backup is so fundamentally important that it is essential that you use somethin...

Re: And another one gets put on my refuse to use list !!!
Yes, they all do. Foxclone: https://foxclone.org/ Read the user guide. My recommendation now for putting it on a stick would be to use ventoy and I must update the guide to better reflect that. A "how to" on ventoy: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=2389786&hilit=ventoy#p238...

Re: Linux Mint login to Active Directory
My link shows connecting with
nemo smb://diskstation.local
as well as how to connect via fstab with cifs. Thought you needed samba for that? Happy to be corrected.- Thu Mar 28, 2024 6:38 am

Re: Python 3 editor that works?
I used to use bluefish (and liked it), now I use VScode, it's better. I use it for C++ (for arduino), but there will be extensions you can add to create a python development environment - it's such an obvious target as so many people use it. I don't use python, don't like it.

Re: Linux Mint login to Active Directory
If all you are trying to do is mount a share from your synology in mint you do NOT need active directory. Read my posts here: https://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?p=2224687&hilit=synology+fstab#p2224687 You need to install samba which you can do from software manager, or in a terminal: apt...

Re: sudoers // privileges
Personally I think it is a bad idea to modify sudoers, especially if you are removing the requirement for a password for all commands. I have no idea why brave wants a password, but run easyssh with pkexec easyssh instead of sudo. You should get a pop-up asking for the password, or you can setup a p...

That sounds like hard work, but it's your computer. I'm the dev for foxclone.

Re: File System Icon in Devices
Just started? If you have a "computer" icon on the desktop, disable it menu > preferences > desktop . It doesn't behave like "my computer" or whatever win call it these days. To me it serves no useful purpose. Your equivalent to "my computer" in mint is your file manage...

Install flatseal, you can change the permissions of flatpaks. I've never used it, I avoid them.
