Re: Make Mint Bootable After Drive Upgrade: Dual Boot with Win 11

Do you have the source drive in the system while trying to boot the clone? That will not work, you need to disconnect the source.

What did you use to clone the drive?

Re: Target packages configured multiple times error with Chrome PPA

The second one. I install chrome from downloading the deb file, why do you want to install from ppa? When installing from deb it adds the additional repo and gives you updates, I can't see the advantage of using a ppa.

Re: Gray Panel When Running Win10 in VB 7.0.18

Do I have to use the VB graphics driver or can I update to the Intel driver? Yes, it is a virtual environment, you have to use the VB supplied drivers. Can I install VB6 over the top of VB7? Use synaptic and remove your existing VB packages Guess I would still have to install the VB6 extension pack...

I vaguely remember having that issue and not finding a way to disable it permanently. I reverted to VB6.1 (which I install direct from oracle).

Re: Timeshift working oddly...

Well, suddenly that is no longer true. When used as a restore, it's obvious that it's working as the kernel and other updates regress to their prior revisions, but not the thing I've done. You might have been messing around with themes or applets or the desktop. Default settings for timeshift do no...

Short answer is yes, 99% of the time.

Things that might trip you up, legacy boot on the source and uefi on the target, nvidia graphics.

Re: I broke my windows drive and now the linux mint on another drive won't boot

What happened is that when you installed mint it put grub, the bootloader, in the EFI partition on your win drive. When that died... The fix is to boot your install stick, run gparted (this is the standard linux partition editor) and shrink your / partition on your mint drive a little. You don't nee...

Re: How to install Huion Inspiroy HS610 graphics tablet on "Linux Mint 21.3 Cinnamon Edition" 64 bits

To confirm, you downloaded Driver_15.0.0.162.deb(Ubuntu) from huion and double clicked on it in your file manager to install it?

What applications have you tried with it? I have a H610 Pro and it works with pinta and krita.

os-prober is still enabled in mint, your link was ubuntu.

I'd be interested to see the output of efibootmgr.

Re: How to backup disk with Linux and Windows

I don't understand. Backup Tool is in the Mint menu. First the backup tool is a file level backup utility, not an image backup utility. Second it is developed for linux systems, not win. So it will not backup your win filesystems unless you have mounted them somewhere in mint. Finally, even as a li...

Re: What partitions would be recommended for installing Linux on a 2TB M2 SSD?

I would use the M.2 drive as your system drive. If you want to do a fresh install to the new drive, yes you can have a separate home partition. I've always had one. On a 1TB nvme my / partition is 40GiB, rest of the drive for home. / is about 60% full with a lot installed, but I don't use flatpaks. ...

Re: What partitions would be recommended for installing Linux on a 2TB M2 SSD?

You can use the Disks program to format the new SSD as an ext4 partition. Bare drives come blank and need to be formatted first. Before you create partitions you need to create a partition table on the drive. This is "hidden" in disks and is very easy to miss. It will let you create a fil...

Re: Trying to install to USB, but installer apparently has UEFI bug - Is installing to USB through BIOS VM possible?

And what effects will that have? I remember someone saying that then it's not possible to boot to main OS without the USB inserted, which I certainly do not want. Partly correct, without the USB grub will load and then fail to find the / partition. Win is still available via your BIOS boot list. We...

All it does is put grub in the EFI partition on the system drive. It does not destroy the main system bootloader.

The workaround is simple.

Re: How to backup disk with Linux and Windows

I would not use a win utility for image backup of a linux system, it may not support linux filesystems. Any of foxclone, rescuezilla or clonezilla will do the job. These are image backup utilities, know nothing about files, just used blocks on known filesystems. They will do all your partitions, inc...
