Re: mount error - unknown filesystem type 'LVM2_member'.

I neither am experienced enough with LVM nor mounting to solve this
Which sounds like a good reason not to use it, but might help:

One of my T430 thinkpads has a i5-3210M and runs cinnamon without problems, you might want to install the CPU temp applet and see if you have a temperature problem.

Re: Switch windows with arrow keys

Alt + Tab will switch windows between open applications, but if you want to use the arrow keys you should be able to setup a shortcut - mint menu > preferences > keyboard and the shortcuts tab. If you haven't done already, have a look at workspaces. I find it useful with a lot of windows open to mo...

Re: New member

Once you get under the hood, linux can be a steep learning curve. I'd recommend you don't try and read any linux 'bibles' simply too turgid and they will miss stuff. There are simply too many terminal utilities to be covered in any bible. If you must, skim them. There are a lot of resources on the w...

Re: Login loop__ "/dev/mapper/vgmint-root" Use% 100% full

"Gnome Encfs Manager" has been superseded https://moritzmolch.com/apps/mencfsm.html same author. encfs does have some security issues, but adequate to deter the casual thief. I use both veracrypt and encfs. Veracrypt you have to define a container (a file) of fixed size, it gets mounted a...

Re: Preparation for LM 20.2 installation - identify disks

Not a fan of full disk encryption, don't use it and can't offer any advice. You are adding a layer of complexity that if you break it can be impossible to get back = lose your data. Anyway, for most users 99% of the files are not sensitive. For what I consider sensitive I use veracrypt containers (a...

Re: Computer for Installing LM & Win on Separate SSDs?

Not used exfat, so knowledge limited. I think support in linux is spotty. Best to use ntfs for sharing between win and linux. Now you have an ext4 partition on the external drive, use it for timeshift as well - you just point timeshift at the partition in settings > location. When you have done this...

Re: hd1 cannot get C/H/S values

Can't guarantee that this will work - not tried with a bios_grub partition on a gpt drive. You still need to create a bios_grub partition. I have see one post online that says it must be at the start of the drive, but not sure I believe that. Booting LM19.3 as normal, in a terminal: sudo mount /dev/...

Re: How to delete a persistent menu item

Hoping someone can point me to an answer. Perhaps an ASCII file that governs the menu's contents? Thanks. The menu is built by parsing the contents of /usr/share/applications . In there you will find a lot of .desktop files. These follow a standard format, e.g. [Desktop Entry] Encoding=UTF-8 Name=H...

Re: how reinstall LM192 on a dual boot

So you have LM19.2 installed in legacy mode.

If you do a sudo update-grub and it doesn't find windows, then you have win installed in UEFI mode.

Re: Preparation for LM 20.2 installation - identify disks

When you install select the 'something else' option, the next screen shows all your drives and partitions. You can point at your existing / partition and tell the installer to reuse it for / and reformat it. If you have a separate /home partition you can tell the installer to use that as /home and N...
