Re: [SOLVED] Formatting an Internal HDD
Glad it worked, I'm not sure I could have provided a much simpler explanation.

Re: Creative Solutions to use Sync.com with Linux OS
- FreeFileSync to mirror /media/tara/Data (/dev/sda1). I am manually mirroring this drive (which has 2TB capacity but is currently at about 125GB) to an external hard drive (almost) daily. I use backintime (install from software manager), works like timeshift - takes snapshots, default is only home...

What version of vuescan? I am running V9.5.72 (old dates back to 2017) on LM21.3 without issue. This was installed from deb not flatpak.

The dvd in my laptop is unreliable. Has anyone replaced one using a caddy with a 2nd hard drive instead. This should allow me to have mint and windows on srperate drives. I find windows updates keep killing grub in dual boot I have four thinkpad T430, in all of them the DVD drive has been replaced ...

Re: Formatting an Internal HDD
The simple solution here is to just copy your EFI partition to your mint drive. Boot your install stick and run gparted: check sdb1, from the size it looks like an EFI partition, if formatted fat32 it probably is. If so then delete it. then copy/paste sda2 into the space created. It may appear as sd...

Re: Execute Script on graphical logoff
Thanks for that, I was aware of and use display-setup-script, I wasn't aware of the others.
If you want to know how to invoke those scripts from lightDM:

Re: Dual boot (UEFI and legacy)
Confirm mint is booting in UEFI mode, open a terminal and
Note - mint installs in the same mode your stick boots in and grub will only detect win if both OS are installed in the same mode.
efibootmgr
. If it says EFI variables are not supported then it is booting legacy, anything else is UEFI.Note - mint installs in the same mode your stick boots in and grub will only detect win if both OS are installed in the same mode.

You could try checking the health of the drive with disks, or you can install smartmontools.

Re: Yet another reason I won't buy LG products.
I have an LG ultrawide monitor, 2560x1080, lovely monitor, but I'd never buy another LG monitor. It worked "out of the box" with a 4.4 kernel (LM18?) but had to jump through hoops (learning how to pull an EDID from a monitor, using xrandr) to get it to work at its native resolution with an...

Re: Timeshift Snapshot timing
I suspect timeshift is either using anacron or a systemd timer (or it might be doing it internally) such that if the computer is not on when a snapshot is scheduled it will take a snapshot next time the computer is switched on. I have daily snapshots scheduled (which is overkill, I must change it) a...

Re: Terminology Oldsters vs Youngsters
I've never driven an automatic. What are you supposed to do with the other foot? And how to stop instinctively reaching for the gear stick in anticipation of something ahead. Well the first time you drive an automatic at some point you are going to try and change gear with the brake pedal and becau...
