Re: Locked out of new SSD

Quote: "As a final note here, I'm not sure why you (1) created so many partitions, and (2) why you created a swap partition." I wanted to use the SSD as the new drive for the Mint OS, including a seperate partition on it for my own files. The other two HDD's had one Windoze and one (old) Mint OS on ...

Re: Locked out of new SSD

In gparted, I erased all partitions on sdc. Then I recreated them, and tried if that helped. Nothing changed. Now mount | grep sdc responds: /dev/sdc1 on /media/helmut/b0ab27b2-4b1d-4da5-b403-e3a022d7a9be type ext4 (rw,nosuid,nodev,uhelper=udisks2) and df reponds: Filesystem 1K-blocks Used Available...

Re: Locked out of new SSD

On all partitions of the sdc, I erased the labels with gparted. Input: sudo chown -R helmut /dev/sdc now seemingly responds with no result. If I try to copy something into a mounted partition of the /sdc this is the result: There was an error copying the file into /media/helmut/f9ab9521-eea8-4414-82...

Re: Locked out of new SSD

vansloneker suggested: In the file manager -at least, in Thunar it works that way- right click on a partition, open as root. Right click again, properties, tab permissions, then allow yourself permissions. That did not work with the file management tool. Then I tried with the panel and got this outc...

Locked out of new SSD (SOLVED)

I have added a SSD to the drives of my computer. The SSD was formatted with gparted and partitions created as needed. Now, If I want to put anything on it or otherwise use it, it will not let me! Looking at the permissions (File, properties) it says "you are not the owner so you can not change these...

SOLVED! WiFi stopped working in Mint19 with X60 Laptop

My Lenovo X60 has been running with Mint 19 Mate 32bit for two weeks. Immediately after upgrading from Mint 17 to 19, WiFi stopped working, but that was fixed, until today. Now WiFi has stopped working again. If I run: rfkill list all it answers: 0: phy0: Wireless Lan Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: ...

Re: I have the cake, now I want the icing... Almost off the Microsoft plantation!

Hi otlichnik73, congrats for switching to Linux Mint and for writing http://SwitchToLinuxDesktop.wordpress.com in such a relaxed style! I've been using Linux since maybe 2001 or so at home. At work (not my firm) various stationary and fixed satellite broadcast facilities are running and controlled b...

Re: I have the cake, now I want the icing... Almost off the Microsoft plantation!

I couldn't be bothered to to it that way, maybe I'm just too lazy. I copy/transfer FF bookmarks like this: In FF click on "Bookmarks", then "show all bookmarks". A window opens, click on "all bookmarks", then on the top "import and backup", then on "backup" and a suggesteted file name ( eg. FF Bookm...

SOLVED Re: No Wifi after update to Mint 19

Thank you, JeremyB!
After switching "Mode" to "Client" and only after saving, the WPA2 Option suddenly appeared in the Security Tab!
Now it works.

[SOLVED] No Wifi after update to Mint 19

Am having problems after updating from an older Mint (17?) to Mint 19. There are numerous computers in this house, but only the updated one (Mint 19) gets no WiFi any more. I have no idea what to do, but have noticed the following: On the old Mint after clicking on the panel applet: Wifi - "Mode" wa...

Re: may need to replace sick computer

Howard, it depends on what you want, predominantly the size. If you want to take it in your flight luggage, look for a "X"-Series. If you want a bigger one, but don't really care if it becomes bulky, a "T" Series is bigger.

Re: may need to replace sick computer

Have several old Thinkpads with Mint/Mate 32bit running day and night, each controlling one highly sensitive security optimized installation. I'm typing this on my own personal Thinkpad, an X60, maybe ten years or so old, but I have absolutely no reason for getting a newer one. I bought it used for ...

Re: Preferred keyboard layout not remaining preferred

I had a similar reoccuring problem, but not with the keyboard, in my case it was the location format reverting to the unwanted and unchosen US format. Maybe you could try the following: Open Menu / Control centre / Languages, and delete everything you see there that you do not use. In particular and...

Re: Slow/sluggish MATE

I have several age-old IBM X30, X32 and X60 running on different Mint versions with MATE as the desktop, and none of them are in any way sluggish. The Problem must be with your machine, its not Mint.
