Re: $200 Laptop @ Best Buy - Will it work with Mint??

I have several old IBM/Lenovo running on Mint Mate. They are X30, X32, X60 and dunno whatelse. One is running on Mint 19. and the rest on 17.3 Except one laptop for my personal use, they are all running day and night, connected to the net and set up for controlling professional Satellite TV Broadcas...

Re: Preferred keyboard layout not remaining preferred

I had a similar reoccuring problem, but not with the keyboard, in my case it was the location format reverting to the unwanted and unchosen US format. Maybe you could try the following: Open Menu / Control centre / Languages, and delete everything you see there that you do not use. In particular and...

Re: Slow/sluggish MATE

I have several age-old IBM X30, X32 and X60 running on different Mint versions with MATE as the desktop, and none of them are in any way sluggish. The Problem must be with your machine, its not Mint.

Re: Linux Mint and laptops

I have had multiple unexpected problems with netbooks and laptops, a real pita! Experience has shown, if I want to avoid a blasted pita, the most probably best thing to do is get a used Thinkpad. Have a look in Yeepay or some other place, they are not as expensive as you may think. I have had zero i...

point of focus jumps randomly

Hi folks, am running Mint 19 MATE 32Bit on a netbook with an Intel Atom CPU. All unnecessary frills (eg. Compiz) turned off. Why netbook? Because I dont want a tablet or to trust private or personal data to a data-dealership-giant like you-know-whoogle which I would be doing with a tablet, because I...

Re: DPI too large - unable to fix

Hi Terryphi, just by chance, have you tried pushing and holding ALT while at the same time moving that window beyond the screen boundaries, as a method to access the otherwise inaccessable buttons?
I'm sure there must be a simple way to fix it in a terminal, but I'm too stupid to know how...

Re: Netbook screen resolution too low for Mint

@ moem There are a lot of netbooks around, and also quite a few folks that use them instead of tablets, because they don't like smudging the screen on top of a plethora of nonsenseual and similarly meaningless-looking colourful pictures... 1024 x 600 was the typical resolution of 10 inch netbooks, t...

Re: Netbook screen resolution too low for Mint

Thank all of you folks very much! I've got it working now, don't know how I did it, but the fundamental underlying problem of Mint tools coming with random and too large sizes remains, and negates the usability of Mint running on netbooks. This is a pity and totally unnecessary! It definitely should...

Netbook screen resolution too low for Mint

Question: Is there a way to reduce the required screen resolution needed to display Mint Screens? On my Toshiba NB250 Netbook, the highest screen resolution is 1024 x 600. Installed is Tara Mate 32bit. If the left mouse-button is pressed and held down whilst "ALT" is pressed, I can move the oversize...

Re: Laptop for Linux

Re: (SOLVED!) How to correct date format in Mint Mate English version?

Great to hear, Lazarus! Good news getting rid of that dialect fixes even more than the messed-up date formats, and thank you for pointing it out.
My dictionaries are also working correctly now. :D

SOLVED Re: Date format in Mint Mate English version?

SOLVED! This problem has been annoying me and others for years, but this finally solved it: 1) In Control centre / Languages, all instances of English including American dialect were deleted, except for a random form of genuine English, be it English UK, English Australian, English NZ or whatever o...

Re: Date format in Mint Mate English version?

Thanks, Pierre! I already had the language set as real English and region as Germany, but the dates are in the so-called American-English format. Its not so much annoying in the panel as in Thunderbird where it becomes a bloody nuisance indeed. This is fundamental problem and is highly annoying! It ...

(SOLVED!) How to correct date format and incomplete dictionaries in non-US English version?

Hi folks, I was wondering if anybody knows how to correct the date format in Mint Mate English version. Help much appreciated. Example: The 31st of July 2018 will show up in the panel as July 31 2018, and in Thunderbird as 7.31.2018 The date and month being awkward because in wrong (American) order....

Re: GEOGEBRA why only archaic version in Mint?

The newer version has been installed from the Geogebra organization's pages, and has been running for years in Mint without problems, but ...

GEOGEBRA why only archaic version in Mint? SOLVED

For learning or studying senior mathematics, Geogebra is the FOSS of choice. If I install it via the MINT application manager, it comes up only in the very old and simple preliminary version 4.4. For several years now, version 5 has been out, which is very much more complexer, and for example, inclu...
