Prevent system from going to sleep while file copy operation is in progress
Let's say I have a large video folder I need to transfer to a new machine. Both running Linux Mint. The way they're currently setup the machines will go to sleep after 15-30mins of inactivity Let's say the copy operation will take 4h to complete, so I'd like to leave it running overnight If I attemp...

Couldn't get it to work unfortunately and I think I've wasted enough time on this already ... throwing the towel
Thanks a lot for your support though

Re: Remove Audio Devices in the Cinammon Audio Applet (Mint 19.3)

Re: Remove Audio Devices in the Cinammon Audio Applet (Mint 19.3)
Quick update: I decided to try the Micro$oft solution and did a full reboot of my system and I'm happy to report that the simultaneous audio driver/device is now gone! Must have been a glitch in cinnamon or something. Okay, there is no documented way to change the port name, so I figured out how to ...

Re: Remove Audio Devices in the Cinammon Audio Applet (Mint 19.3)
Thanks for the prompt response MrEen, Things are not so simple unfortunately: Run paprefs again and uncheck the box on the last tab should remove it permanently. It didn't. Well....it did it 50% - when i left click on the applet and choose "Sound Settings", the first tab under Devices used...

qTox and sys tray icon in Mint Cinnamon 19.3 and 20
I have two machines running Mint 19.3 and 20, both x64 Cinnamon edition Installed the latest flatpak version of qTox from the Software Center Interestingly I'm experiencing a buggy behavior on my Mint 20 machine suspecting the culprit is not qTox /as the two versions are identical/: - Checking all t...

Need some help backing up my older Samsung S5 Android 4.2 phone
Trying to make a full offline backup of my older Samsung S5 Android 4.2 phone to my Linux Mint 19.3 Cinnamon desktop Some notes: - Phone is rooted - debug/developer mode is enabled - desktop machine is registered with the Desktop so the command adb devices recognizes my phone without complaining tha...

Re: Silly file association question
What about Vala? Is it dead?C# is out
I understand it uses the c# syntax but is unmanaged and eventually compiles to C which in turn compiles to native code, is this correct?

Re: Silly file association question
Alright - I think you deserve a beer! I'm impressed. Couple notes I need to make though: // Begin rant - Your solution to what I thought was a pretty basic question /not that you claimed it was gonna be simplistic/ is 60+ lines and involves working with the terminal, copying & pasting cryptic xm...

Re: Silly file association question
Let's say you give a real-world example, then let's say I'll show you how to fix it. I did not expect this would be of any significance but since you requested it, here it is: MyMusic.audpl is actually called Leps-BestOf.audpl MyText.txt is actually called Readme.txt The rest is the same. Your turn...

Silly file association question
Let's say I have two files: MyMusic.audpl MyText.txt First one is a music playlist (plain text file) consisting of a list of mp3 files to be played in Audacious. Second file is a plain txt file. I had my txt files associated with Leafpad as my default editor. Problem is linux does not care very much...

Re: No sound after switching users and firefox active
I should probably mention that my default audio output is the "Simultaneous audio output driver" since I don't want to be switching audio outputs between regular speakers and audio over HDMI - I have both receiving signal all the same time, but only one is actually on at a time

Re: No sound after switching users and firefox active
Thnks, will try that next, but wondering if this is the way to go even if it does work - I'd assume normally multiple users should be able to log in and out without the admin having to cleanup the audio system after each and every user So the more important aspect of my question is whether my specif...

Re: Audio/Video Issues: Nvidia Control Panel and Pulse Audio
Forgot to mention an important step - the default "NVIDIA X Server Settings" script found in the startup applications dialogbox needs to be disabled for all local user accounts. Not doing so results in a black screen after logging in

Re: Audio/Video Issues: Nvidia Control Panel and Pulse Audio
I may have found a better solution than my script from the previous posts, which I'm posting below in case someone else is struggling with the same problem Note however that this is not the way the nvidia driver is supposed to work in Linux - the documentation specifically states that there should b...
